Pyron® Continuous Tow

Product catalog summary
Product Overview: Pyron® Continuous Tow fibers are oxidized/stabilized PAN fibers (OPAN) known for their inherent fire resistance, thermal stability, excellent chemical and solvent resistance, and electrical non-conductivity. They are available in crimped or uncrimped forms and can be processed into yarn, pulp, short fibers, or staple fibers for various applications.
Fiber Properties: The fibers have a minimum density of 1.36 g/cc, a diameter of 1.25 microns, and a Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) of 40% or more. They are black in color and have a resistivity of 8x108 ohms cm.
Chemical Resistance: Pyron® fibers exhibit good resistance to strong acids and weak bases, excellent resistance to weak acids and organic solvents, but poor resistance to strong bases.
Chemical Composition: The fibers are composed of 62% carbon, 21.5% nitrogen, 12% oxygen, 4.5% hydrogen, with less than 0.1% sodium and trace metals below 0.01%.
Material Specifications: The standard density is 1.37 g/cc with a LOI of 40%+, while high density is 1.40 g/cc with a LOI of 50%+. The tensile strength is 240 MPa (34,800 psi) with a filament count of 300K, available in uncrimped format.
Packaging: Pyron® Continuous Tow is packaged in plastic-lined boxes weighing approximately 185 kg (400 lbs), while crimped tow is available in bales weighing approximately 430 kg (950 lbs).
Certification: Each shipment is accompanied by a Certificate of Conformance, ensuring compliance with Zoltek’s published data.
Safety: Users are advised to obtain and understand the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before using the product.
