General Information
ZIRCAR Ceramics' Alumina Type ZAL-15AA is a low-density, rigid refractory structure made from high-alpha polycrystalline alumina fibers and high-purity inorganic alumina binders. It is an excellent thermal insulator with good machinability, hot strength, and dimensional stability, suitable for continuous use up to 1500°C and intermittent use up to 1600°C. It is chemically inert, exhibits high electrical resistivity at elevated temperatures, and is transparent to microwave and RF energy fields. The material is pre-fired, contains no organic binders, and is resistant to chemical attack except by hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, and strong alkalis.

  • Thermal Conductivity: Ranges from 0.06 W/m°K at 250°C to 0.25 W/m°K at 1350°C
Suggested Applications
ZAL-15AA is recommended for use as primary thermal insulation in bright annealing furnaces, supports and fixtures in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, backup insulation in high-temperature furnaces, high-temperature setters, and precision-machined insulation in scientific instruments. It also serves as electrical insulation in high-temperature systems.
Availability
Standard boards are available in sizes such as 18”W x 24”L x 1.00”T and can be ordered online. Custom boards and shapes are also available, with machining techniques allowing for a variety of sizes and shapes. Surface treatments and coatings are offered for enhanced properties.
