Introduction
The ZF-EcoLife Rail is a state-of-the-art powershift transmission designed for rail vehicles, offering significant advantages such as noticeable fuel savings, extended service life, and optimal shift comfort. It is based on the proven ZF-EcoLife city bus transmission, adapted for rail requirements.
Specifications
The transmission enables up to 20% fuel savings compared to hydrodynamic drives. It features six speeds suitable for diesel railcars with input torque up to 2,500 Nm and engine torque up to 3,100 Nm. The system includes a gearset drive, gearset reversing transmission, propshaft, and RDCS, customizable to customer needs through a modular construction system.
Performance and Safety
The optimized torque converter ensures exemplary acceleration and smooth operation, reducing fuel consumption during starts. The integrated retarder provides high braking torques, enhancing safety and reducing mechanical brake wear and maintenance costs. The fail-safe principle ensures driveline separation in emergencies. The system operates reliably at high temperatures, with oil sump temperatures up to 120°C, suitable for modern diesel engines.
Rail Drive Control System (RDCS)
The RDCS serves as the central communication interface, automating the shift reversal process and integrating the driveline into the train. It is the ideal interface to the TCU train control unit, reducing integration efforts and ensuring stable electrical integration. The system is EMC certified.
