Power factor correction

Product catalog summary
Power Factor Correction Overview
Power factor correction (PFC) is crucial for enhancing electrical system efficiency by minimizing reactive energy in power lines. The aim is to achieve a power factor of 1, with penalties for factors below 0.95. PFC can be implemented individually, in groups, or centrally, with microprocessor controllers ensuring optimal levels.
Types of Power Factor Correction
  • Individual PFC: Capacitors are directly connected to appliances.
  • Group and Central PFC: Suitable for larger systems with variable loads, controlled by microprocessors.
Capacitor Types and Construction
Capacitors are available in MKP and MKV systems, both self-healing. MKP capacitors use metallized PP film and are dry, while MKV capacitors use metallized paper and PP foil, impregnated with mineral oil, suitable for higher power and temperature.
Installation and Safety
PFC capacitors should have slow-breaking fuses and be connected with copper conductors. Recommended conductor cross-sections and fuse ratings are detailed in a table.
Individual PFC Calculation
Calculations for transformers and motors are provided, specifying capacitor power requirements based on motor speed and transformer type.
Type Description and Configuration
Capacitors are classified by application, phase number, cooling method, configuration, and dielectric system. Detailed coding explains the type and specifications, including voltage, power rating, and frequency.
Key Recommendations
For systems with significant harmonic distortion, detuned PFC with reactors is recommended to reduce distortion and protect capacitors.
Detuned Reactors
Application: Detuned reactors address voltage and current distortion caused by non-linear electronic devices. They prevent resonance and act as a broadband filter when voltage distortion exceeds 3%.
Construction: ZEZ SILKO reactors are made from high-grade materials, ensuring high linearity and low losses. They are vacuum impregnated for high voltage stress resistance and minimal noise.
Installation Instructions: Consider network parameters, reactor power, and detuned frequency. Ensure adequate cooling and rate capacitors for higher voltage than the network's rated voltage.
Recommended Torques for Al Reactors with Busbars: M6: 7-9 Nm, M8: 8-10 Nm, M10: 11-14 Nm, M12: 15-20 Nm.
Technical Data: Specifications include power, capacitance, inductance, rated current, linearity current, and losses.
Medium Voltage Capacitors
Application: Designed for power factor correction and harmonics filtration at medium voltage.
Construction: Capacitors use a polypropylene foil dielectric impregnated with JARYLEC, ensuring low losses. Three-phase units are star-connected, and single-phase units are I-connected.
Installation Instructions: Prevent mechanical stress, ensure proper torque, maintain distance between capacitor cans, and check connections after operation. Discharge capacitors before handling.
Technical Data and Limit Values: Includes rated voltage, frequency, standards, overvoltage, overcurrent, capacitance tolerance, test voltages, inrush current, losses, life expectancy, protection degree, ambient temperature, cooling, humidity, altitude, mounting position, and case material.
Dimensional Drawings: Includes dimensions and weights for various capacitor types.

POWER FACTOR CORRECTION KOMPENZACE JALOVÉ ENERGIE Under normal operating conditions an electrical equipment (electric motors, welding machines, fluorescent lamps) consumes not only active energy from the power line, but also reactive energy. From the physical viewpoint, the reactive energy is necessary to secure a correct function of these devices. However, sum of both energies applies load to transmission networks. The effort is to connect correctly designed capacitor to the appliance, which supplies the reactive energy directly to the appliance. It reduces the amount of reactive energy transmitted...

POWER FACTOR CORRECTION KOMPENZACE JALOVÉ ENERGIE Capacitors are produced in MKP and MKV systems. Both dielectric systems are self−healing. Metal plated layer is evaporated in case of the voltage breakdown. Formed insulating surface is very small and does not effected the functionality of the capacitor. Capacitors windings are inserted into aluminium container. Container is equipped with the overpressure disconnector. MKP capacitors are made of one−side metallized PP film. Contacting of the winding is performed by zinc spraying. This configuration is dry without impregnant. As for MKV capacitor,...
