Electrohydrodynamic 3D Printing Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) printing is an emerging high-resolution technique that has attracted wide attention since its debut and is now used in skin-tissue engineering, optical devices, and conductive electrodes. An EHD printer mainly comprises a nozzle plus fluid-drive unit, a high-voltage source, a high-speed camera/imaging system, and a motion stage. When droplets are needed, a high voltage is applied between the nozzle tip and the substrate; the ink forms an electrified conical jet under the electric field and is ejected. The crux of the technology is creating this electric field by applying high voltage across the nozzle and substrate. ACTUAL EXPERIMENT PHOTO Experimental procedure: The function generator produces a signal that is fed into the high-voltage amplifier. The amplifier boosts the signal and applies the high voltage to both the syringe and the conductive substrate, creating an electric field between them. This field induces a Taylor cone in the liquid droplet, and the syringe drives the ink to jet along the direction of the electric force. The droplet finally lands on the substrate surface.
