Cubic CO2 gas sensor module for HVAC application - 1

Cubic NDIR Carbon Dioxide Sensor Module for HVAC Application Why is CO2 Control So Important? Concentration Normal background concentration in outdoor ambient air Concentrations typical of occupied indoor spaces with good air exchange Complaints of drowsiness and poor air Headaches, sleepiness, and stagnant, stuffy air. Poor concentration, loss of attention, increased heart rate and slight nausea may also be present Workplace exposure limit (as 8-hour TWA) in most jurisdictions Exposure may lead to serious oxygen deprivation resulting in permanent brain damage, coma and even death According to NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), concentrations of 40000ppm or higher should be regarded as immediately dangerous to life and health. Exposure to very high concentrations (eg. Exposure to 6% volume CO2 for several minutes or 30% volume CO2 for 20-30 seconds), has been linked to permanent heart damage. Concentrations greater than 10% are capable of causing loss of consciousness within 15 minutes or less.

CO2 control in the HVAC system Building managers and owners have become aware that control of temperature and humidity alone is insufficient to meet occupant comfort needs. Air quality affects performance and, in some cases, occupant health. Number of occupants, activity level, building tightness, ventilation rate, space volume, plants, and building construction all affect building CO2 levels. CO2 levels typically correlate with other bio-effluents such as gases, odors, particulates, bacteria, viruses, and perfumes. Automatic detection of the occupancy state became possible by using CO2...

CO2 Sensor Application in Building Management System With CO2 measuring it is possible to control individual fans, dampers, valves, etc., creating a better indoor environment and energy savings. A common application is CO2 Demand Ventilation in a Building Management System, controlling ventilation in rooms with varying numbers of people such as offices, classrooms, and cinemas. The ventilation control is normally based on both temperature and CO2. Why measure CO2 for commercial ventilation? The primary indoor source of CO2 in office buildings is the breathing of the building occupants. CO2...
