This stackable, add-in module allows connection to 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps networks using standard CAT5 twisted pair copper cables. It is based upon the Intel 82573 controller that is supported by a wide range of operating systems including Windows, Linux, and other x86-compatible operating systems. • Link status, Activity, and Speed LEDs • PC/104 pass through connector for legacy stacks • Powered by either a single +5V or 3.3V supply • Operates from -40°C to +85°C Ethernet Controller - The PXM-GIGE module uses the Intel 82573 integrated controller. It combines Intel’s Gigabit MAC design with fully integrated PHY technology that meets or exceeds IEEE 802.3ab specifications for Bit Error Rate performance. The controller provides a PCIe x1 connection to the SUMIT A connector. PXM-GIGE Block Diagram The 82573 architecture is optimized to deliver both high-performance and PCIe bus efficiency with the lowest power and smallest size. It has a dedicated on-chip microcontroller. The controller handles the gigabit traffic with low network latency and minimal internal processing overhead. Wide internal data paths eliminate performance bottlenecks by efficiently handling large address and data words. The 82573 efficiently handles packets with minimum latency by combining a parallel and pipelined logic architecture optimized for Gigabit Ethernet and independent transmit and receive queues. A 32-KB on-chip packet buffer maintains superior performance. In addition, using hardware acceleration, the 82573 offloads tasks from the host. MAC Features - The MAC has optimized transmit and receive queues. It caches up to 64 packet descriptors per queue.
