Mineral-insulated Thermocouple

Product catalog summary
Overview: Mineral-insulated thermocouples are designed according to DIN/IEC standards. They consist of thermocouple conductors embedded in inert mineral powder and encased in a metal sheath, providing a hermetically sealed assembly. These thermocouples are ideal for environments requiring fast response, reduced space, and vibration resistance. They can be equipped with a fixed cable or a special plug for easy installation or replacement.
Technical Specifications:
  • Compliance: DIN IEC 65 B (CO) 76
  • Sheath Materials: Stainless steel SS 321 (1.4541), Inconel 600 (2.4816)
  • Thermocouple Types: K and L (IEC 584), J (DIN 43710)
  • Sensor Configuration: Single and duplex, with isolated or grounded measuring junctions
  • Isolation Resistance: 1000 MW at room temperature, decreases at higher temperatures or with smaller diameters
  • Temperature Limits: Type K (max 800°C for 1.4541, 1100°C for 2.4816), Type L and J (max 800°C)
  • Cable Junction Temperature: Standard extension lead +70°C, generally 200°C
Application Guidelines: Maximum temperatures are applicable for clean air. Higher temperatures, especially with cyclic loads, can reduce sheath thickness due to oxidation. Aggressive media can attack the sheath material, and smaller diameter sensors have reduced lifespans at higher temperatures.
Reaction Time: The reaction time varies based on the measuring junction (isolated or grounded) and the medium (water or air). Smaller diameters have faster response times.
Special Considerations: Mineral-insulated thermocouples can be bent at a radius five times the sheath diameter. High operating temperatures can cause mechanical stress on thermoconductors, leading to increased drift over time.
Ordering Information: Assemblies are custom-made based on specifications. Details such as sheath diameter, length, thermocouple type, tolerance class, hot junction type, temperature range, and sheath material must be specified. Optional accessories and compression fittings are available.
