Product catalog summary
Overview of KS Vario Multiloop Controller System
The KS vario multiloop controller system is designed for temperature treatment processes, offering flexibility and modularity. The basic system includes a controller module and a field bus coupler, supporting 4, 6, or 8 loops, and can be expanded up to 30 control loops by adding I/O modules. The system is compatible with standard I/Os for integration with PLC/SCADA systems.
System Components
The system consists of various modules that can be easily connected without tools. The field bus coupler, which includes a power supply, connects the controller to various field bus systems such as ProfiNet, Profibus-DP, CANopen, DeviceNet, and Modbus. Key modules include digital and analog input/output modules, relay output modules, and combined I/O modules.
Bus Couplers
  • KS VARIO BK PN: ProfiNet bus coupler with real-time capabilities.
  • KS VARIO BK IP: Ethernet IP bus coupler supporting Rockwell protocols.
  • KS VARIO BK ETH: Ethernet TCP/IP bus coupler supporting Modbus TCP.
  • KS VARIO BK DP/V1: Profibus DP/V1 bus coupler with high-speed data transfer.
  • KS VARIO BK CAN: CANopen bus coupler supporting up to 32 PDOs.
  • KS VARIO BK DN: DeviceNet bus coupler with polling and change of state capabilities.
  • KS VARIO BK MOD: Modbus RTU bus coupler.
Input/Output Modules
  • Digital Input Modules: Available with 2, 4, 8, or 16 inputs at 24 VDC.
  • Analog Input Modules: Support various current and voltage ranges, and inputs for resistive sensors and thermocouples.
  • Digital Output Modules: Available with 2, 4, 8, or 16 outputs at 24 VDC, 500 mA.
  • Relay Output Modules: Provide changeover contacts for AC voltage applications.
  • Analog Output Modules: Support various current and voltage outputs.
  • Combined I/O Modules: Include inputs for resistive sensors or thermocouples and digital outputs.
Application Areas
The KS vario system is suitable for a wide range of applications including extruder automation, mold heating, textile machines, packaging machines, semiconductor production, furnaces, driers, climatic chambers, heat treatment, burner and boiler control, medical technology, and sterilizers.
Control Functions and Features
The system supports conventional control modes, including master/slave and valve motor control, with self-tuning options. It offers comprehensive communication options and demand-oriented expansion. The BlueControl® Engineering Tool aids in system configuration and simulation.
Performance Features
  • Comprehensive Communication: Supports multiple field bus systems for connectivity.
  • Demand-Oriented Expansion: Allows for easy expansion by adding I/O modules.
  • Automatic Interconnections: Modules connect automatically without tools.
  • Fast Module Replacement: Plug-in connectors facilitate quick module changes.
  • Galvanic Isolation: Ensures isolation between segments.

Modular, intelligent, open KS vario: The system components The modular KS vario multiloop controller system has been developed specifically for temperature treatment processes, whereby the basic version consists of a controller module and a field bus coupler. These two components already provide a fully operatio- nal control unit with 4,6 or 8 loops. Simply by adding the required number of individual I/O modules, the system is expandable up to 30 control loops with minimum extra cost. Hereby, no more I/O modules are required than those needed for the actual number of inputs & outputs. Moreover,...

Control functions All conventional control modes including master/slave and valve motor control are selectable per channel. Two self-tuning options are available for determining the best control para- meters: during start-up or at setpoint. Individual sampling rates starting at 100 ms are adjustable for each channel. Controller modules • Thermocouples or resistive sensors • Integrated heating current monitor • Expandable up to 30 control zones Additional functions Several special functions such as controlled start-up for plastics processing machines are standard features of the basic version....
