VOLLRATH bead mills type VMSM are designed for wet grinding of suspensions and pigment pastes, primarily used in the paint and coatings industries.

Principle
The mills operate by rotating a shaft with grinding discs within a fixed chamber filled with grinding beads. The mill-base is pumped through this chamber, where the disc rotation creates high-speed movement, resulting in efficient grinding. The ground product is separated from the media by a slotted screen at the outlet.

Automation and Production Data Acquisition

Frequency Converter Operation
Both the grinding shaft and feed pump are controlled by frequency converters, allowing optimal grinding conditions, controlled dwell time, easy startup, and minimal wear during cleaning.

Grinding Options
If a single pass is insufficient, options include multiple passes, re-circular grinding, or using a double-chamber bead mill.

Re-Circular Grinding
The mill base is continuously pumped and stirred in a holding vessel until the desired specification is achieved, ideal for the VMSM 1/.. B model.

Double-Chamber Bead Mill
For large production runs, the double-chamber mill type VMSM 2/..B is recommended, allowing for coarse and fine grinding in series.

Laboratory Testing
Trials can be conducted in the VOLLRATH laboratory to determine optimal throughput rates and machine sizing.

Explosion Protection

Re-Circular grinding The mill base is pumped from its holding vessel, passed through the grinding chamber and then returned to the same vessel, whilst being stirred continually to keep it homogeneous at all times.
