Fluid Bed Roasting

Product catalog summary
Overview of Fluid Bed Roaster Technology
The document discusses the advantages of using a fluid bed roaster for roasting beans, nuts, grains, and other products. The fluid bed roaster keeps the beans aloft in a circulating fountain of air, ensuring even roasting without burning the exterior, unlike other methods that may result in an uneven roast with grassy or bitter flavors.

Technological Advantages
The fluid bed roaster allows precise temperature control using a thermocouple, which can sense temperature within 0.01 degrees. This precision ensures consistent roasting quality.

Ventilex Fluid Bed Roaster Benefits
  • High capacity and efficiency.
  • Recipe-based processing for multiple products.
  • Data logging and PLC instrumentation for repeatable and verifiable processes.
  • Minimal operator intervention with automated controls.

Roasting Process
The roasting process involves fluidized bed roasting, where the product is guided over a perforated plate with heated air supplied below. This setup allows for fluidization and movement of the product, ensuring even roasting. A cooler section is integrated to reduce product temperature post-roasting.

Process Control and Customization
The system can be adjusted for different roasting grades by modifying process parameters. A sophisticated PLC with a menu structure ensures consistent product quality by following predefined recipes. Data logging is used to monitor and log production details.

Applications and Market
Ventilex fluid bed roasters are suitable for a variety of products, including coffee beans, cocoa beans, nuts, grains, and more. The equipment is custom-designed to meet high production standards and is used in the food, dairy, chemical, pharmaceutical, and aggregate markets worldwide.

Company Information
Imtech Ventilex manufactures high-quality fluid bed dryers, coolers, and other processing equipment. The company offers in-house engineering, manufacturing, and installation services, with a focus on energy efficiency and low operational costs.

ROASTER FOR BEANS, NUTS, GRAINS etc. Why roasting on a Ventilex Fluid Bed ? The Imtech Ventilex roasting process, in a fluid bed roaster, delivers a consistent, evenly-roasted product with a superior result over flat-bed and drum roasters. Products that can be roasted are : coffee beans, cacoa beans, nuts, grains, peanuts, cereals, seeds, macademia nuts, sesam, coriander etc. Example : Coffee Beans "Coffee beans are the seeds inside a ripe, red cherry-like fruit. It is the careful roasting of the green bean that has given coffee its place in our daily lives. The roasting process is not a mystery; the careful application of heat breaks down the protein in the beans to create aromatic oils, called caffeol, which when combined with the gasses that reside in the bean after the roasting process, are the heart and soul of what is most loved in every good cup of coffee. Ventilex Fluid Bed Roaster Benefits: The Ventilex Fluidized-bed roasters have found wide acceptance because of their high capacity and efficiency. Recipe based (for processing multiple products) Data Logging and PLC instrumentation, which makes processes repeatable and verifiable. Stores all critical data permanently. Minimal operator intervention—automated controls; Choose recipe and setpoints are always the same. Imtech Ventilex Fluid bed roaster The beans are kept aloft in a fluid, circulating fountain of air, roasting the beans evenly through to the center. Other roasting techniques allow the beans to come in contact with hot sheet metal, which burns the outside of the bean. This results in an incompletely developed roast with a taste that can be grassy or bitter. One of the technological advantages of the fluid bed roaster is the ability to control the temperature in each bean equally. A thermocouple is introduced into the fluid bed of air and can accurately sense temperature to within .01 degree.

The process The roaster operates according to the principal of (sub) fluidised bed roasting. It means product with a certain moisture content will be guided over a perforated plate. Heated air is supplied below this plate and the material to be roasted is set in motion under the impact of upward and downward movement (fluidisation). Depending on the shaking frequency and product moisture the product moves in longitudinal direction of the roaster. To reduce the product temperature after drying, a cooler section is integrated into the unit. Fresh air will be taken in via one supply fan. This fan...

The roasting can be done with a steam heater if sufficient steam pressure is available or with a gas burner. In the fluid bed a different grade of roasting can be obtained by adjusting the process parameters. And even more important for is modern food processing plant is to reduce human influence and to make sure that the same product quality can be reached every time; Today, tomorrow and next month. To guarantee these results a sophisticated PLC is installed with a menu structure with recipes so that the product is treated exactly the same, every time. Ventilex Fluid Bed Roasting of almonds...
