This information is for the end user of the Velmex Tree Ring Measuring System (TA System) UniSlide® Linear Manual Assemblies consist of hard aluminum alloy dovetail base fitted with an aluminum sliding element that has bonded bearing pads of a PTFE composite formulation. A precision roll-formed lead screw converts rotary-to-linear motion. The lead screw is held by pre-loaded ball bearings and drives a low friction, adjustable, anti-backlash nut. The UniSlide TA System consists of: • A UniSlide Linear Stage - Model number TA40XXH1-S6 (The XX represents the length) • An attached encoder • A Velmex VRO™ Encoder Readout - VRO1B • Additional Accessories (if purchased) TA System Care and Maintenance This Guide provides information and procedures for the general use and maintenance of Velmex UniSlide TA Systems. Proper care should provide years of effective and valuable operation of the measuring system. ** Carefully read, understand and observe the complete instructions before beginning set-up and operation. It is necessary to mount the TA40XXH1-S6 on a minimum of 3/4" thick board, plywood, plastic or some other good quality flat material. This allows the knob, which extends below the base to turn freely and be accessible. On the top surface of the movable carriage a larger platform can be mounted for supporting long cores and sections. Velmex provides two 10-32 tapped holes 3.250" center-to-center for mounting an additional work surface. A 1/2" thick opaque plastic or similar material platform is recommended. Do not drop anything on the lead screw; if bent, it will not work properly. If an accident does occur call Velmex, Inc. immediately to request a Return Material Authorization Number. Shipping and repair charges will be the responsibility of the customer. Do not attempt any repair yourself. Occasionally, a gentle wipe of the dovetail and brushing of the lead screw with a brass bristle brush will extend the life of the slide for many years. Brush the lead screw with the thread, flicking out any accumulation of debris. Velmex can clean and recondition the TA System UniSlide for a nominal fee. This is exclusive of any major damage, the cost of which will be estimated before any work begins. Please refer to the Velmex Returned Materials Authorization process. Shipping, insurance and custom's fees are the responsibility of the customer. It is strongly recommended that original boxes and packing material be kept for such use.
