Product catalog summary
Overview
The VEGAPULS C 22 is a radar sensor designed for continuous level measurement, utilizing two-wire 4-20 mA/HART technology. It is ideal for non-contact level measurement in various industrial applications, particularly in water treatment and bulk solids containers.

Key Benefits
  • Maintenance-free operation due to 80 GHz radar technology.
  • Accurate measurements regardless of product, process, or ambient conditions.
  • Reliable performance even in flooding conditions.

Functionality
The sensor emits a radar signal that reflects off the medium and is received back as an echo. The frequency difference between emitted and received signals is proportional to the distance, which is converted into a measurable output.

Technical Specifications
  • Measuring range: up to 15 m (49.21 ft)
  • Deviation: ≤ 2 mm
  • Beam angle: 8°
  • Output signal: 4-20 mA/HART
  • Process pressure: -1 to +3 bar (-14.5 to +43.51 psig)
  • Process temperature: -40 to +80 °C (-40 to +176 °F)
  • Materials: Wetted parts made of PVDF, process seal of FKM, PUR insulated cable

Housing and Electronics
The housing is made of PVDF, optimized for water/wastewater applications, with IP66/IP68 protection. Electronics versions include two-wire 4-20 mA/HART, SDI-12, and Modbus/Levelmaster protocols.

Approvals
The instrument is suitable for hazardous areas with approvals like ATEX and IEC.

Adjustment and Connectivity
  • Adjustment via signal cable using VEGADIS 82, VEGACONNECT, and PACTware.
  • Wireless adjustment via Bluetooth with apps for iOS, Android, or PCs.
  • Remote adjustment options available via HART Communicator and manufacturer-specific programs.

Electrical Connection
Wire assignment includes brown (+) and blue (-) for voltage supply, with shielding.

Dimensions
Includes specific measurements for threads G1½, 1½ NPT, and R1½.

Additional Information
Further details, including operating instructions and product information, are available on the VEGA website. The site also provides resources for instrument selection and contact information.

Specification sheet VEGAPULS C 22-1

Specification sheet Two-wire 4 … 20 mA/HART Radar sensor for continuous level measurement Technical data Measuring range Deviation Beam angle Output signal Process fitting Mounting connection Process pressure Process temperature Ambient temperature Operating voltage Materials The wetted parts of the instrument are made of PVDF. The process seal is made of FKM. The connection cable is PUR insulated. You will find a complete overview of the available materials and seals in the "Configurator" at www.vega.com and "Products". Application area The VEGAPULS C 22 is the ideal radar sensor for non-contact level measurement with high accuracy requirements in all standard applications where a high degree of protection is required. It is particularly suitable for level measurement in water treatment, in pumping stations and rain overflow basins, for flow measurement in open channels, for level monitoring and for many other industrial areas. The sensor is suitable both for measuring liquids and for use on small bulk solids silos or bulk solids containers. Your benefit Housing versions The housing is optimized for applications in the water/waste water industry and manufactured of PVDF. Due to the encapsulated cable gland, protection rating IP66/IP68 (3 bar) is achieved. Electronics versions The instruments are available in different electronics versions. Apart from the two-wire electronics with 4 … 20 mA/HART, two digital versions with SDI-12 and Modbus/Levelmaster protocol are possible. • Maintenance-free operation due to non-contact 80 GHz radar technology • Low overall height and reliable measurement in case of flooding. Exact measurement results independent of medium, process and ambient conditions You can find detailed information at www.vega.com/downloads and "Approvals". • Exact measuring results independent of product, process and ambient conditions Depending on the electronics version, the instruments are suitable for use in hazardous areas and are approved, for example, according to ATEX and IEC. Function The sensor emits a continuous radar signal through the antenna. The emitted signal is reflected by the medium and received as an echo by the antenna. The frequency difference between the emitted and received signal is proportional to the distance and depends on the filling height. The determined filling height is converted into a respective output signal and output as measured value. VEGA Grieshaber KG, Am Hohenstein
