Product catalog summary
Overview
The VEGAFLEX 81 is a TDR sensor designed for continuous level and interface measurement of liquids. It operates with a 4-20 mA/HART two-wire system and is suitable for various challenging conditions such as steam, buildup, foam, and condensation.

Benefits
  • Simple and reliable setup through guided adjustment.
  • Comprehensive diagnostics for maintenance-friendly operation and high plant availability.
  • Shortenable probes for flexibility in planning and standardization.

Functionality
The sensor uses high-frequency microwave pulses guided along a cable or rod. The time taken for the pulse to reflect back from the product surface is proportional to the level in the vessel.

Technical Specifications
  • Measuring Range: Cable probe up to 75 m, Rod probe up to 6 m.
  • Accuracy: ± 2 mm.
  • Process Fitting: Thread from G¾, ¾ NPT, flanges from DN 25, 1".
  • Pressure: -1 to +40 bar.
  • Temperature: Process: -40 to +200 °C, Ambient: -40 to +80 °C.
  • Voltage: 9.6 to 35 V DC.
  • Materials: Wetted parts made of stainless steel with seals of FKM, FFKM, or EPDM.

Housing and Electronics
  • Available in single or double chamber versions in plastic, stainless steel, or aluminium.
  • Protection ratings up to IP 68.
  • Electronics versions include two-wire, four-wire, and digital versions with Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus.

Approvals
The VEGAFLEX 81 is approved for use in hazardous areas according to ATEX and IEC standards, with various ship approvals.

Operation and Adjustment
Adjustment can be done via the PLICSCOM module, PC software PACTware, HART communicator, or manufacturer-specific programs.

Specification sheet 4 … 20 mA/HART - two-wire, rod and cable probe TDR sensor for continuous level and interface measurement of liquids Technical data Measuring range ƲƲ Cable probe Measuring accuracy Process fitting Process pressure Process temperature Ambient, storage and transport temperature Operating voltage Application area With VEGAFLEX 81 you can measure all kinds of liquids essentially maintenance free. The sensor delivers precise and reliable measured values even in applications with steam, buildup, foam generation or condensation. VEGAFLEX 81 is a truly cost-effective level and interface sensor for your measuring task. Your benefit • The guided adjustment enables a simple, time-saving and reliable setup • Comprehensive diagnosis options ensure maintenance-friendly operation and thus high plant availability • Shortenable probes allow simple standardization and maximum flexibility in planning Function High frequency microwave pulses are coupled onto a cable or rod and guided along the probe. The pulse is reflected by the product surface. The time from emission to reception of the signals is proportional to the level in the vessel. VEGA Grieshaber KG, Am Hohenstein 113, 77761 Schiltach/Germany, www.vega.com Materials The wetted parts of the instrument are made of stainless steel. The instrument seal is made either of FKM, FFKM or EPDM. You will find a complete overview of the available materials and seals in the "configurator" on our homepage at www.vega.com/configurator. Housing versions The housings are available as single chamber or double chamber version in plastic, stainless steel or aluminium. They are available with protection ratings up to IP 68 (1 bar). Electronics versions The instruments are available in different electronics versions. Apart from the two-wire electronics with 4 … 20 mA/HART, a four-wire version and two purely digital versions with Profibus PA and Foundation Fieldbus are available. Approvals The instruments are suitable for use in hazardous areas and are approved e.g. according to ATEX and IEC. The instruments also have various ship approvals such as e.g. GL, LRS or ABS.
