ICI PILLING TESTER ** code 279G_H_GA_HA ** Instrument to simulate the fabrics rubbing on a rough surface for the evaluation of pilling, that is the formation of small balls of entangled fibres on the fabric surface. The amount of pilling that develops depends on the fibre, yarn and fabric properties and is determined by multiple parallel processes: the fibre entanglement leading to pill formation, the development of more surface fibre and the fibre and pill wear-off. The ICI Pilling Tester is particularly suitable to perform tests on knitted fabrics. Models with 2 or 4 rotating boxes and three selectable speeds - 30, 60 or 90 rpm. Special “A” versions equipped with protective CE safety cover are available. The ICI Pilling Tester is supplied complete with a set of accessories necessary to run the tests, including the SM54 reference photographs for knitted fabrics. Snagging tests can also be performed, by installing a set of nails on the existing box, or by installing a new box with the nails already fitted. A special drum is also available to perform snagging tests according to the M&S test methods. Test procedure The fabrics to be tested must be wound on special pipes of polyurethane (by means of the fitting kit) which are then placed into the cork paneled boxes. After setting the required rotation number (999999 max.) and the rotating speed (30, 60 or 90 rpm), press the function key to start testing. Once the preset cycle is over, the pilling forming on the sample is evaluated and classified by comparison with the special set of standard photographs. When using the kit for the snagging test, the fabrics deterioration caused by the entangling into pointed materials with known characteristics is simulated.
