Overview: The LSI Computer Systems LS7183N is designed to interface incremental encoders with standard up/down counters. It is an enhanced version of the LS7083N, offering improved features for new product designs.
Key Features:
  • Resolution Multiplication: Offers x1, x2, or x4 resolution multiplication.
  • Compatibility: Compatible with TTL and CMOS technologies.
  • Power Efficiency: Operates with low current consumption in the micro-amp range.
  • Package: Available in an 8-pin DIP package.
  • Clock Independence: Does not require external clocks for operation.
  • Counter Interface: Can directly drive standard up/down counters like 74193 or 40193.
  • Power Supply: Operates within a 3V to 5V power supply range.
Improvements Over LS7083N:
  • Resolution: Includes a x2 resolution multiplication feature.
  • Power Supply Range: Expanded operating range.
  • Output Pulse Timing: Enhanced timing characteristics for output pulses.
Important Note: The Rbias values for output pulse width timing differ from those used in the LS7083N model.

LS7183N Encoder to Counter Interface Chip-1

Encoder to Counter Interface Chip Page 1 of 1 Description The LSI Computer Systems LS7183N allows incremental encoders to drive standard up/down counters. Connect the encoder quadrature outputs to the A & B inputs. The LS7183N outputs can connect directly to the up and down clock inputs of counters such as 74193 or 40193. The LS7183N is an improved version of the LS7083N and should be considered first for all new product designs. The primary differences between the old and new LS chips are the addition of a x2 resolution multiplication, power supply operating range and improved output pulse timing characteristics. Please note: Rbias values for output pulse width timing are not the same as the LS7083N.
