Product catalog summary
Overview: The E3 is a high-resolution rotary encoder designed for easy mounting and dismounting on existing shafts, providing digital feedback. It features a rugged glass-filled polymer enclosure and offers either a 5-pin locking or standard connector.
Specifications: The encoder includes a mylar disk on a precision aluminum hub and an encoder module with a solid-state light source and phased array sensor. It supports diameters up to 1" and is suitable for applications up to 10 feet, with longer distances requiring a differential line driver.
Features: The E3 offers quick assembly, a rugged housing, and accepts .010" axial shaft play. It supports 64 to 10000 cycles per revolution (CPR) and 256 to 40000 pulses per revolution (PPR), with 2-channel quadrature TTL squarewave outputs and an optional index channel.
Environmental and Mechanical Parameters: Operating temperatures range from -40 to 100°C for CPR < 3600 and -25 to 100°C for CPR ≥ 3600. It withstands vibrations up to 20 G and electrostatic discharge of ±4 kV. Mechanical specifications include a maximum shaft axial play of ±0.010 in., and various RPM limits based on CPR.
Torque and Electrical Specifications: Torque specifications range from 2-6 in-lbs for various components. Electrical specifications include a supply voltage of 4.5 to 5.5 V and varying supply currents based on CPR. Output specifications detail low and high-level outputs and current per channel.
Accessories: Accessories include a centering tool, hex tool, spacer tool, and screws, each with specific part numbers and descriptions for different packaging options.
Ordering Information: The encoder can be customized with various CPR, bore sizes, index options, cover types, base options, and packaging configurations.
Warranty: US Digital® provides a two-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Optical Kit EncoderPage 1 of 7 Features ► Quick, simple assembly and disassembly ► Rugged screw-together housing ► Accepts .010" axial shaft play ► Small size ► 64 to 10000 cycles per revolution (CPR) ► 256 to 40000 pulses per revolution (PPR) ► 2 channel quadrature TTL squarewave outputs ► Optional index (3rd channel) The E3 is a high resolution rotary encoder with a rugged glass-filled polymer enclosure, which utilizes either a 5-pin locking or standard connector. This optical incremental encoder is designed to easily mount to and dismount from an existing shaft to provide digital feedback information. The internal components consist of a mylar disk mounted to a precision machined aluminum hub and an encoder module. The hub is available for diameters up to 1". The module contains a highly collimated solid state light source and monolithic phased array sensor, which together provide a system extremely tolerant to mechanical misalignments. The E3 is normally designed for applications of 10 feet or less. For longer cable lengths, adding a PC4 / PC5 differential line driver is recommended. Attachment of the base to a surface may be accomplished by utilizing one of several machine screw bolt circle options. Positioning of the base to the centerline of a shaft is ensured by use of a centering tool. The cover is securely attached to the base with two 4-40 flat head screws to provide a resilient package protecting the internal components. Connection to the E3 product is made through either a 5-pin locking or standard connector. The mating connectors are available from US Digital with several cable options and lengths.
