Introduction
Umicore's GASIR®1 is a chalcogenide glass designed for high transmission, high refractive index, and maximum purity. It is available in various forms such as raw material, blanks, spherical lenses, aspheres, and asphero-diffractive lenses. GASIR®1 is recognized as an industry standard due to its excellent mechanical and optical properties, as well as its moldability, making it the preferred material for over 1,000,000 lenses.

Physical Data & Typical Characteristics
Mechanical Properties: The glass has a density of 4.40 ± 0.01 g/cm³, compression resistance of 161 MPa, Young’s modulus of 17.89 GPa, torsion modulus of 6.98 GPa, flexion resistance of 17.2 MPa, Poisson Ratio of 0.28, and Vickers’ Hardness of 170 HV.
Thermal Properties: The glass temperature is 292°C, with an upper use temperature of 250°C. It has a specific heat of 0.36 Jg⁻¹K⁻¹, a thermal expansion coefficient of 17 x 10⁻⁶ K⁻¹, thermal conductivity of 0.28 Wm⁻¹K⁻¹, and a heat capacity of 0.36 Jg⁻¹K⁻¹.
Optical Properties: The refractive index varies with wavelength, starting at 2.5796 at 1.064 µm and decreasing to 2.4787 at 14 µm. The variation between lots is less than 6 x 10⁻⁴. The temperature coefficient of refractive index is provided for specific wavelengths at 20°C and 100°C.

The maximum absorption coefficient and transmission percentages are detailed for wavelengths ranging from 0.8 µm to 14 µm. The transmission remains relatively stable at 68.5% for most wavelengths, with slight decreases at higher wavelengths.

Available Shapes and Sizes
