Product catalog summary
Overview: This document provides comprehensive technical specifications and installation guidelines for the Absolute Monotour/Multitour shaft encoder models TBN/TRN, equipped with CANopen Safety SIL2 and CANopen interfaces. These encoders are designed for robust applications such as crane technology and construction machinery.
Specifications:
  • Design: The encoders feature a sturdy housing made from seawater-resistant aluminum or stainless steel, available in diameters of Ø 42, Ø 50, and Ø 58 mm.
  • Measuring Range: The TBN model supports up to 65,536 steps per 360°, while the TRN model supports up to 65,536 steps per revolution across 4096 revolutions.
  • Protection Grade: The encoders offer IP65/IP66 protection, with an optional upgrade to IP69K.
  • Interfaces: They support CANopen Safety SIL2 and CANopen (CiA DS 406 Encoder Profile, 4.0.2).
Functionality: The encoders utilize a magnetic sensor system for position detection and record rotations via an absolute Multitour transmission in the TRN model. They support the CANopen Safety protocol, ensuring position and speed values meet SIL2 requirements.
Technical Data:
  • Electrical: Operating voltage ranges from 9 to 36 VDC, with power consumption of less than 1 W for TBN and less than 1.5 W for TRN.
  • Mechanical: The maximum operating speed is 1,000 min-1 with a shaft sealing ring and 10,000 min-1 with a Nilosring.
  • Environmental: The working temperature range is -40 °C to +82 °C, and the storage temperature range is -20 °C to +60 °C.
Safety and Standards:
  • SIL2 Compliance: The encoders comply with functional safety standards according to IEC 61508: 2017.
  • EMC Standards: They meet various EMC standards, including the EN 61000 series.
Connection and Configuration: The encoders feature electrical connections via M12x1 connectors, with options for Bus In and Bus Out. They support various galvanic isolation configurations for potential isolation.
Galvanic Isolation: Three versions of galvanic isolation are outlined:
  • V1: -VS, CAN_GND, and Shield/housing are not galvanically isolated.
  • V2: -VS and CAN_GND are galvanically connected but isolated from Shield/housing.
  • V3: -VS, CAN_GND, and Shield/housing are all galvanically connected.
Electrical Connections: The encoders use a 5-pin M12 connector for electrical connections, with options for radial or axial cable orientations. The document specifies the pin functions for different configurations.
Order Identification: A detailed order identification system is provided for different encoder models based on design form, output signal, galvanic isolation, electrical connection, CANopen interface version, measuring range, output code, resolution, housing material, and flange and shaft type.
Installation Drawings: The document includes installation drawings with dimensions in millimeters for different encoder models, specifying the position of nameplates, shaft seals, and sensor connectors.
Accessories: A range of accessories is available, including play-free bellows couplings, clamp couplings, mounting brackets, torque supports, and measuring wheels, each with specific data sheets referenced for further details.
Installation Details: Precise measurements for components like the shaft seal and clamping shaft are provided, ensuring accurate assembly and installation.
Component List: The document lists components with their positions, quantities, names, and materials, including torque support and height adapter made of plastic, and various screws and washers made of stainless steel.
Drawings and Diagrams: Detailed views of the encoder's dimensions and component placements are provided to ensure accurate assembly and installation.

With the TBN model, one rotation (max. 65,536 steps) is recorded. With the subsequent absolute transmission, the TRN shaft encoder reaches a measuring range of up to 4096 rotations. With the CANopen Safety protocol, both the position value and the speed value (SRDO - Safety Relevant Data Object) meet the requirements of SIL2. The values for the redundant system are compared and checked for plausibility. If the check is positive, the output will be normal and bit-inverted. Comprehensive checks using CRC, timing monitoring, voltage monitoring etc. ensure that reliable position and speed values are output. The speed value can be parameterised via the gate time (1 to 1000 ms) depending on the specific application. In the event of a fault, emergency protocols are issued and a fault listing is created. The target function here is to move to a safe state in the event of a fault. This is also referred to as the functional safety of the shaft encoder. The position and speed values (PDO - Process Data Object) are output via the CANopen protocol. TWK-ELEKTRONIK GmbH BismarckstraBe 108 [email protected] visit us at | twk.de
