LD400 and LD400P

Product catalog summary
Overview: The LD400 and LD400P are versatile electronic DC loads designed for testing DC power sources like batteries and solar cells. They feature multiple operating modes and built-in transient generators, suitable for design labs and component testing.
Specifications: These devices support a voltage range of 0 to 80V and a current range of 0 to 80A, with continuous power dissipation of 400 watts at 28°C, and up to 600 watts for short-term use. They have a low minimum operating voltage of less than 1V at 40A, high resolution and accuracy, and a high-resolution backlit graphic LCD.
Operating Modes: The LD400 and LD400P offer constant current, resistance, conductance, voltage, and power modes, each with specific features for power source regulation and load simulation.
Transient Generator and Slew Rate: The built-in transient generator allows for variable frequency and duty cycle, with slew rate control for simulating complex load conditions.
Remote Control and Interfaces: The LD400P includes remote control via USB, RS-232, GPIB, and LAN interfaces, with the LAN interface being LXI compliant for system use.
Protection and Safety: Features include excess power protection, reverse polarity protection, and isolation voltage up to ±300Vdc, with a dropout voltage setting to protect power sources.
Additional Features: The devices offer thirty non-volatile memories, a current monitor output, and analog remote control for all modes.
Protection Mechanisms:
  • Power Levels: Operation levels set at 610W and 630W.
  • Protection Current: Input disabled if current exceeds limits; fault state at 92 Amps.
  • Protection Voltage: Input disabled if voltage exceeds limits; fault state at 106V, surge suppressors activate above 120V.
  • Temperature: Fault state if heatsink temperature exceeds safe levels.
  • Sense Error: Fault state if external voltage sense is more than 6V below internal sense.
General Specifications:
  • AC Input: 110V–120V or 220V–240V AC ±10%, 50/60Hz.
  • Power Consumption: Max 30VA, mains lead rating of 6A.
  • Operating Range: +5ºC to +40ºC, 20% to 80% RH.
  • Storage Range: –40ºC to +70ºC.
  • Environmental: Indoor use up to 2000m altitude, Pollution Degree 2.
  • Cooling: Variable speed fan with rear air exit.
  • Safety: Complies with EN61010-1 and EN61010-2-030.
  • EMC: Complies with EN61326.
  • Size and Weight: 130mm H x 212mm W x 435mm D, 5.7 kg.
  • Option: 19-inch rack mount kit available.
Specification Notes:
  • 600 Watt Mode: Dynamic response not specified; slew rate and transient oscillator frequency range restricted.
  • Slew Rate Ranges: Theoretical slope of transition between levels.
  • Minimum Transition Time: Fastest transition using a benign battery source and low inductance connections.
  • Common Mode Capability: Tolerance for voltage drops in cables; monitor negative must connect to load negative circuit.
  • Accuracy: Specifications apply for 18°C – 28ºC at 50W load power after 30 minutes of operation.

Multiple modes of operation Imax Constant Current Constant current mode is used for load testing of normal voltage-source power supplies and for constant current discharge testing of batteries. This mode provides rapid measurement of power source regulation (V/I characteristics). Constant power mode simulates a load whose power consumption is independent of the applied voltage. This is true of many types of equipment that incorporate switch-mode regulators. This mode may be particularly suitable for testing power sources of portable devices such as Lithium-ion batteries. Constant Voltage Constant...
