These attenuators comply with VDI 6022 hygiene standards and are suitable for explosive atmospheres as per EU Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX).
Specifications
  • Attenuation Mechanism: Combines resonance and absorption for noise reduction.
  • Energy Efficiency: Features an aerodynamically profiled frame with a radius over 15 mm.
  • Acoustic Data: Measured according to ISO 7235.
  • Material Safety: Uses biosoluble, non-combustible absorption material (EN 13501, class A1) with glass fibre fabric facing to prevent erosion at airflow velocities up to 20 m/s.
  • Operating Temperature: Up to 100°C.
Optional Equipment
Includes additional perforated sheet metal for protection and constructions in stainless steel, aluminium, and PUR-coated materials upon request.
Technical Data
  • Nominal Sizes: Available in various sizes with 1 mm increments.
  • Variants: MSA100, MSA200, MSA230 with different splitter thicknesses.
  • Construction: Features a casing with grooves for rigidity, aerodynamically profiled splitter frame, and folded frame edges for infill protection.
  • Materials: Galvanised sheet steel for casing and frames, mineral wool for absorption material.
Standards and Guidelines
Complies with VDI 6022, DIN 1946, and VDI 3803 hygiene requirements and tested for insertion loss and sound power level according to ISO 7235.
Maintenance
The construction and materials are maintenance-free as they are not subject to wear.
Quick Sizing and Performance
Quick sizing tables provide insertion loss and differential pressures for various airway widths and airflow velocities, with sound power levels and differential pressures specified for different configurations.
Order and Variants
Includes detailed order codes and examples for specifying configurations, with variants offering different splitter thicknesses and materials for specific applications.
Conclusion
The MSA Type Splitter Sound Attenuators are designed for effective noise reduction in air conditioning systems, offering energy efficiency, safety, and compliance with hygiene standards. They are customizable with various sizes and materials to suit different operational needs.
Specifications
Details specifications for sound attenuator casings, including dimensions and weights for various configurations, with lengths from 500 mm to 1500 mm and heights from 300 mm to 1800 mm.
Procedures
Installation and commissioning guidelines stress the importance of following installation information and general codes of good practice. For heights up to 1200 mm, any installation orientation is possible, but upright installation is recommended. For heights above 1200 mm, only upright installation is allowed. Specific instructions are provided for installations in ducts outside closed rooms.
Norms and Standards
All measurements and sound power levels are based on standards such as EN ISO 7235, with lab measurements conducted in a TROX lab. Sound power levels exceeding 50 dB are indicated as 50 dB, following common practice.
Recommendations
Recommendations include ensuring sufficient protection against weather effects for installations outside closed rooms and noting the definitions of width, height, and length, especially in cases of vertical airflow. Guidelines are also provided for upstream conditions after bends, junctions, or changes in duct dimensions.
Key Data from Tables
Tables provide weights for sound attenuator casings with standard flanges and angle section frames across various dimensions. For example, a casing with a standard flange and dimensions of 300 mm height and 200 mm width weighs 6 kg at a length of 500 mm and 15 kg at a length of 1500 mm. Casings with angle section frames have different weights, such as 9 kg for a 300 mm height and 200 mm width at a length of 500 mm.
Critical Information
Critical parameters include the number of flange holes per side of the angle section frame, which varies based on width and height. The document also highlights the importance of understanding the principal dimensions and nomenclature, such as outer diameter, length, width, height, and other relevant measurements.

Type MSA-4

Splitter sound attenuators Functional description Splitter sound attenuators of Type MSA contain splitters of Type MKA. The attenuation effect of the MKA splitters is due to absorption and resonance. The splitters have a mineral wool infill as absorption material. Part of the splitter surface that runs parallel to the airflow is covered with resonating panels. These panels start oscillating due to the sound (resonance) and hence absorb sound energy. Resonance works best in the frequency range of critical fan noise. There is a higher attenuation across a wider frequency range when compared to...
