Power Voltage Transformers

Product catalog summary
Introduction
Trench Power Voltage Transformers (Power VTs) are designed to combine the features of an inductive voltage transformer with those of a distribution transformer. They are ideal for situations where low voltage is required and high voltage is available, offering high reliability due to their direct connection to high voltage lines.

Applications
  • Auxiliary Power Supply for Substations: Power VTs can replace tertiary windings in power transformers, providing power directly from transmission lines.
  • Electrification of Rural Areas: Suitable for remote areas with weak or non-existent distribution networks, offering a cost-effective power supply solution.
  • Power Supply for Cell Phone Relay Stations: Enables installation of mobile stations near high-voltage lines in remote areas.
  • Power Supply During Construction: Provides temporary power during construction of substations, wind farms, etc.
  • Transmission Line Lighting: Supplies power for safety lighting on transmission poles.

Features and Design
Power VTs are a low-cost alternative to small power transformers, featuring:
  • Combination of inductive voltage and power transformer attributes.
  • Output power up to 100 kVA with SF6-insulated, composite insulator design.
  • Compact size, corrosion-resistant materials, and explosion-proof design.
  • Maintenance-free with remote supervision capabilities.
  • Compliance with IEC 61869-3, ANSI C57.13 standards.

Technical Data
Power VTs are available in various voltage levels (123 kV to 550 kV) with rated power frequency withstand voltage ranging from 230 kV to 680 kV. They offer output power options of 100 kVA, 75 kVA, and 65 kVA, with customizable output voltage between 120 V to 400 V. The rated frequency is 50-60 Hz, and they operate within a temperature range of -25°C to +40°C. Insulation class is E, with metering accuracy classes ranging from 0.2 to 3.0 and protection accuracy classes of 3P to 6P.

Manufacturing Locations
Trench Instrument Transformer factories are located in Canada, China, France, Germany, India, and Italy. For more information, visit their website or contact them via email.

Introduction Trench Power Voltage Transformers (Power VTs) combine the attributes of an inductive voltage transformer with the application of a distribution transformer, therefore they are the perfect solution wherever low voltage is needed and high voltage is available. Power VTs simply have to be connected to the high voltage overhead line to provide power at low voltage. Due to this direct connection to the transmission line, the reliability of Power VTs is very high, as they are not dependent on distribution lines that are more susceptible to outages. Applications Auxiliary power supply for substations Power supply for cell phone relay stations Auxiliary power for substations is mostly supplied over a tertiary winding of the power transformer. With a Power VT, such a tertiary winding can be avoided, supplying the power needed directly from the transmission line within the substation, while serving as conventional Voltage Transformer at the same time. To improve coverage, cell phone network providers might need to install stations in remote areas where the necessary output power and voltage is not available. With Power VTs it is possible to...
