General Information
National Wear Sleeves are precision components designed to press fit onto a shaft, becoming part of it. They provide a surface finish of 10-25 microinches Ra and are installed at ambient temperatures without the need for heating. These sleeves help reduce costs for manufacturers by eliminating the need for machining complex shafts to tight tolerances.
Installation
1. Clean the sealing surface of dirt and oil.
2. Apply a liquid sealant or gasket cement to the shaft surface.
3. Press the wear sleeve into position using an installation tool or flat plate, avoiding hammering on the thin edge.
4. Remove excess sealant from the sleeve edges to prevent seal leakage.
Removal
Methods for removing wear sleeves include applying heat to expand the sleeve, tapping with a hammer to stretch it, or using a rounded chisel. It is not necessary to cut the sleeve completely before removal.
Shaft Tolerances
For shafts up to 3.000", the tolerance is ± .001". For shafts between 3.001" and 6.000", the tolerance is ± .0015".
V-Seals
V-Seals are versatile elastomeric seals made from Nitrile or Viton, used as primary sealing elements or contaminant excluders. They mount on and rotate with the shaft, with the lip lightly contacting the counterface. They are suitable for a wide range of shaft sizes and can accommodate eccentric or misaligned shafts.
