Class K AP-2 Bearing End Cap Designs Current Standard Class K Timken AP-2, 6 ½ x 9 Bearing Design A.A.R. Class K AP-2 Bearing Design. Traditional End Cap Old Class K end cap, marked AP-2, 6 ½ x 9. Prototype Class K Timken® AP-2™ Bearing Design Prototype design with “long” journal and “deep” end cap. 105 carsets built for Norfolk Southern. Alternative End Cap Intermediate end cap design marked AP-2, 6 ½ x 12. At bearing reconditioning, these end caps are being revised to 6 ½ x 9. “Deep” End Cap Prototype end cap design marked AP-2, 6 ½ x 12. New End Cap Standard Class K end cap marked AP-2, 6 ½ x 9. The journal bearing without the end cap is the same regardless of end cap design. WARNING Failure to observe the following warnings could create a risk of serious injury. Not matching the bearings and adapters as described will lead to bearing damage and less than desired wheelset performance. Proper bearing maintenance and handling practices are critical.
