The relay measures all the phase and residual currents and voltages, making them available for reading on a display or to communication interfaces. Signals are sampled 20 times per period and optimum filtering is made through combined use of analog and digital filters. The overcurrent directional function makes use of a special criterion based on a phase lock loop algorithm: this feature allows the relay to correctly operate in the presence of a solid three-phase short circuit close to the measuring point, where the line voltage drops to zero.
