Series_FLOMID_Electromagnetic_flowmeter

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document outlines the specifications and guidelines for the FLOMID series electromagnetic flowmeters, which are used to measure the flow rate of conductive liquids. It also covers the FLOMID-FX series, focusing on the XT5 and MX4 converters.
Key Specifications:
  • Flow rate measurement is unaffected by density, temperature, viscosity, and pressure, with a range from 10 l/h to 14100 m³/h and an accuracy of ±0.5%.
  • Minimum electric conductivity required is 20 μS/cm.
  • Materials for lining include PP, PVDF, PTFE, and Ebonite, while electrodes are made from Hastelloy C22, Titanium, EN 1.4404, Tantalum, and Zirconium.
  • Connections are available in EN 1092-1 or ANSI flanges, and sanitary connections according to ISO 2852, SMS 1145, DIN 11851, TRI-CLAMP®.
Installation Guidelines:
  • Flowmeters can be mounted in any position, requiring a full pipe.
  • Short straight pipe sections are needed: minimum 5 x DN before and 3 x DN after the flowmeter.
  • Ensure the pipe is always full and electrodes are in contact with the liquid.
  • Valves should be downstream to avoid vacuums, and pumps should be upstream.
  • For abrasive liquids, mount the flowmeter in a rising pipe to prevent sedimentation.
Working Principle: The flowmeters operate based on Faraday's induction law, where a voltage is induced between electrodes when a conductive liquid flows through a magnetic field, allowing flow rate measurement.
Applications: Suitable for use in cooling-heating circuits, water treatment plants, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, paper, fertilizer, and car industries.
Technical Data:
  • Accuracy is ±0.5% for flow speeds ≥ 0.4 m/s.
  • Communication protocols such as HART and Modbus are available on request.
  • The design is modular, with compact and remote converter options.
Additional Features:
  • Includes local indication, volume totalizer, 4-20 mA, and pulse outputs.
  • Alarms and empty pipe detection are available depending on the converter model.
  • Full diagnosis is available for the MX4 converter.
Dimensions and Models: The document provides detailed dimensions for various models and configurations, including hygienic executions for pharmaceutical and food industries.
XT5 Converter Specifications:
  • Enclosure is IP67 polycarbonate with front tactile push buttons for programming.
  • Linearity is ±0.2% full scale, and repeatability is ±0.1% full scale.
  • Temperature range is 0ºC to +60ºC, with power supply options of 24, 115, 230, 240 VAC 50/60 Hz or 24 VDC.
  • Features include empty pipe detection, programmable flow rate cut off, adaptive flow rate filter, and zero offset adjustment.
MX4 Converter Specifications:
  • Enclosure is IP67 coated aluminium with front push buttons for programming.
  • Linearity is ±0.2% full scale, and repeatability is ±0.1% full scale.
  • Temperature range is -20ºC to +60ºC, with power supply options of 90-265 VAC 50/60 Hz or 12-48 VDC.
  • Features include empty pipe detection, programmable flow rate cut off, adaptive flow rate filter, zero offset adjustment, and full diagnosis capabilities.
Communication Protocols:
  • XT5H Converter supports HART communication, compatible with HART Server Communication software.
  • MX4B Converter supports Modbus RTU RS485 communication.
  • MX4H Converter supports HART communication, compatible with HART Server Communication software.
Additional Information: The document mentions the availability of remote mounted versions for both converters and provides contact information for Tecfluid S.A., which is ISO 9001 certified and complies with various European directives.

Working principle The measurement principle is based on Faraday`s induction law. A voltage V is induced between a pair of electrodes when a conductive liquid flows in a pipe of diameter D at an average velocity vm, through a magnetic field B (which is perpendicular to the flow direction). This voltage, proportional to the average velocity of the liquid, is acquired by the electronic converter in order to be processed and converted to a flow rate measurement. V = B · vm · D V = Voltage across the electrodes vm = Liquid velocity B = Magnetic field strength D = Pipe diameter  Alarms, empty pipe...

Electromagnetic flowmeters Series FLOMID Straight sections of pipe are necessary for the proper operation of the flowmeter. Required straight pipe run depends on the flow profile, which can be affected by the disturbing elements found in the installation before and after the sensor. A minimum distance of at least 5 x DN upstream and 3 x DN downstream from the flowmeter must be kept. Valves should be downstream from the flowmeter to keep the pipe full and to avoid vacuums which can damage the flowmeter liner. Pumps should be upstream from the flowmeter to avoid vacuums. Earth connection In order...

Sensor selection The diagram shows the correspondance between the liquid velocity and the flow rate for different sensor sizes. The sensor size should be chosen selecting a liquid velocity of about 3-4 m/s. The minimum liquid velocity should not be below 0.5 m/s. 10 When the liquid has solids in suspension, it is better to work between 3 and 5 m/s in order to avoid sedimentation in the pipe and sensor.
