Product catalog summary
Spring Loaded Devices Overview
Ball Plungers: These are the smallest and lightest spring-loaded devices, available in steel and stainless steel bodies with balls made of stainless steel or nylon. They are side-load tolerant and have controlled end forces. Installation is done using a screwdriver, and sizes conform to TCMAI standards. The body color indicates the end force: Plain or Zinc for light force, Black for standard force, and Gold for heavy force.
Delrin® Body Ball Plungers: These plungers are durable, lightweight, and withstand side loading. They feature a stainless steel spring and provide electrical isolation. The body color indicates the end force: Blue for light force and White for heavy force.
Press Fit Ball Plungers: Made from steel or stainless steel, these are ideal for softer materials like aluminum, wood, or plastic. They have a sturdy shoulder for fixed seating and resist detent force.
Standard Spring Plungers: Available in carbon and stainless steel bodies, these plungers are designed for heavy and light end forces. They feature high tensile strength and excellent wear resistance. The steel body plungers have a black oxide finish, while stainless steel body plungers have a black Delrin nose.
Accessories: Spring and ball plunger wrenches are available to prevent excessive spring compression during installation and removal.
General Information: Metric sizes are available, and many sizes conform to TCMAI standards. Typical uses include positioning, locating, ejecting, detents, contacts, lifters, insulators, and latches. Easy installation is a key feature.
Specifications:
  • Materials: Plungers are made from 12L14 steel with a black oxide finish or 303 stainless steel. Noses are available in phenolic, Delrin, or steel, with finishes such as black oxide or zinc plating.
  • End Forces: The document lists initial and final end forces for each plunger, indicating the force required to compress the spring.
  • Thread Sizes: Both imperial and metric thread sizes are provided, with detailed dimensions for each plunger type.
Types of Plungers:
  • Steel Body Plungers: Available with phenolic or Delrin noses, these are ideal for applications requiring high tensile strength and wear resistance.
  • Stainless Steel Body Plungers: Feature a 303 stainless steel body and nose, offering excellent wear resistance.
  • Short Spring Plungers: Designed for heavy end forces, these plungers are available in both carbon and stainless steel bodies.
  • Metric Plungers: Dimensioned in millimeters, these plungers are suitable for international applications.
Key Features:
  • Wear Resistance: All plungers are designed to offer excellent wear resistance, making them suitable for long-term use.
  • Insulating Delrin Plungers: These are ideal for applications involving soft materials, providing insulation and reducing the risk of material damage.
  • Easy Installation: Many plungers feature a one-piece body design, simplifying installation and removal.
Applications: The plungers are suitable for use in various industrial applications where high-speed, long-life, and high-torque resistance are required. They are particularly useful in environments where materials like aluminum and brass are used.
Additional Information: Special sizes are available upon request, and many sizes conform to TCMAI standards. The document also provides contact information for further inquiries and orders.

Installation Information: Most TE-CO Spring & Ball Plungers can be installed using a screwdriver, hex key wrench, or a specialized plunger wrench. Hand Retractable Spring Plungers can be installed without tools by using the knob. Due to their hollow bodies, these devices can withstand less torque than bolts or screws. A table is provided to guide the installation torque for various thread sizes.
Nylon Thread Locking Element: Devices can be ordered with or without a nylon thread locking element, which compresses against the mating threads to provide locking. This element may cause installation issues in softer metals or aluminum, which can be mitigated by using a larger tap drill or ordering a plunger without the locking element. For thread sizes 1/4” and larger, it is recommended to countersink the installation hole to prevent damage to the locking element.
Tap Drill Sizes: A detailed table lists the unified and metric thread sizes along with the maximum installation torque in inch-pounds. This table serves as a reference for selecting the appropriate tap drill size for spring plungers.
Special Plunger Quotation Request: The document includes a form for requesting quotations for special plungers, detailing dimensions, material specifications, and environmental conditions. Users are encouraged to photocopy the form for multiple requests.
