Product catalog summary
Overview: The Multi-Finger Scratch/Mar Tester 710 is a precision instrument designed to measure the susceptibility of material surfaces to physical damage such as scratching and marring, beyond ordinary wear. It utilizes tungsten carbide tips and is based on a five-finger scratching device commonly used in the automotive industry.
Design and Functionality: The tester features a pneumatically driven platform where specimens are secured. It includes five independent spline-shaft fingers that apply a constant vertical load on the test specimen as it moves under interchangeable scratch tips. The design allows for testing non-standard width samples.
Applications: This tester is widely used in the automotive industry for testing plastics used in ornamentation or trim. It is also suitable for evaluating plastics, rigid organic materials, paints, coatings, soft metals, and linoleum, making it valuable for quality control and product development.
Included Components: The tester comes with a spline shaft finger assembly, scratch and mar tips, a 9-piece weight set, an electronic timer with a digital display, adjustable specimen clamps, and a quick disconnect socket for air supply.
Standard Features: Key features include a pneumatically driven platform, control knob operation, interchangeable scratch and mar tools, a gripping spring clamp for specimen hold-down, a replaceable specimen platform protective guard, and an electronic timer accurate to 1/100 second. It also includes an air regulator control with a built-in lubricator.
