New standard for dust extractors Increasingly powerful woodworking machines require increasingly effective safety solutions to prevent fires and explosions. Since 2018, the new DIN EN 16770 has defined concrete safety requirements for dust collectors. The standard offers both machine manufacturers and the woodworking industry a guideline for design and operation. According to Annex B, an active ignition protection system is required for two categories of dust collectors. ■ Dedusters with online cleaning (with volume of raw air area from 1.2 m3). This refers to filters with infrequent downtimes that are cleaned during operation. ■ Dedusters with a volume of the raw air area of 2.3 to 3.5 m3. This includes not only the dust-loaded interior of the extraction unit, but also that of the pre-separator, collection container or hopper, depending on the design. That is safety - state of the art Our ignition protection system is a smart spark extinguishing system for dedusters. The system complies with DIN EN 16770. Both the spark detectors and the automatic extinguishing system are VdS-certified, and the control unit is FM-approved. This prevents fires and explosions. You actively and reliably protect people, the environment and your production from damage - for safe operation without unnecessary production downtimes. Manufacturers can deliver their machines ex works with this plus in safety, users can retrofit their plant with small effort. Simply plug and play! All components are assembled, connected and configured into a light and compact system. Plant operators can easily carry out the on-site installation ■ Install detectors and extinguishing nozzles in the extraction line. ■ Connect the water supply for the automatic extinguishing system to the existing water pipes. ■ If required: Connections for forwarding signals, for example to the control room. Reliable protection For reliable detection of all sparks, two facing spark detectors monitor the aspiration duct. Each spark is extinguished before it can reach the filter: Within milliseconds, the SEC-1 control unit triggers spark extinguishing as well as automatic shutdown of the machine. At the same time, the alarm device emits flashing light and hooting signals. System malfunctions, such as low water pressure, are also displayed on the control unit. In addition, both alarm and fault signals can be forwarded as required, for example to a control room for visualisation. The necessary connections are already integrated. electronic FIRE PROTECTION www.tbelectronic.eu
