Product catalog summary
Introduction
This document addresses the detection of capacitive electrical defaults such as the Corona effect, electrical path issues, arcing, and partial discharge in medium and high voltage installations (HTA & HTB, U > 1000 V).

Problems Associated with Capacitive Electrical Defaults
Capacitive electrical defaults generate ultrasonic waves that can cause significant issues in electrical installations, including:
  • Safety hazards such as fire, explosion, mechanical breakdown, and corrosion.
  • Audible noise and electromagnetic interference, affecting radio transmissions.
  • Chemical pollution, with the Corona effect producing ozone and other compounds like NH4 and NO3.

Detection Solution
The LEAKSHOOTER LKS1000 device, which combines vision and ultrasonic detection technology, is recommended for identifying these defaults. It allows for scanning cables, connections, and insulators from a safe distance of 5-10 meters or more. The device features an automatic and dynamic target display, facilitating the detection process with or without headphones. Once a default zone is identified, a photo can be taken for future technical reporting and repair.

Example Application
An example is provided with a 63,000 V installation, where poor mechanical and ground connections lead to detectable electrical arcing. The LEAKSHOOTER LKS1000 can identify these issues from a distance of 3 meters, aided by its dynamic targeting and the ability to hear the characteristic sound of arcing through headphones.

Detection of electrical defaults partial discharges, corona effects-2

What are the problems with capacitive electrical defaults on medium and high voltage lines ? Capacitive electrical defaults (who generate ultrasonic waves) on middle and high voltage installation create problems on connections, cables, insulators, disruptors…and are problem sources of: - Safety of people and property (fire, explosion, mechanical piece breakdown , corrosion, …) Noise, audible parasite noise Electromagnetic interference by conduction or by air transmission (radio interference) Chemical pollutions (CORONA creates Ozone, NH4, NO3…) Capacitive electrical default search solution :...

Example with a 63.000 V installation : Bad mechanical and ground connection under 63.000 V, electrical arcing is easily detected with the LEAKSHOOTER LKS1000 at 3 m distance thanks to it automatic/dynamic target and with the headphones which with we can hear arcing characteristic sound.
