MPS Modular Tool System Overview

The MPS Modular Tool System is engineered for precision honing across a broad range of bore diameters and lengths. It supports HT/HL/STH systems and features modular components such as hone heads, mandrels, drive/feed extensions, adapter sets, and abrasive stones, enabling flexible customization and maintenance.

1. Hone Head Modules and Diameter Ranges

• MPS-H85: 85 mm to 177 mm (3.4"–7.0")

Each hone head assembly includes yoke, cage, hone body with gears and pins, pinion adjustment, stone and guide adapters, and swaging tools. Double length hone heads are available by special order.

2. Adapter Sets and Drive/Feed Extensions

• MPS-2200 Adapter Set: For MPS-H70/H85 with MPS-1000JU5X mandrel driver
• MPS-2201 Adapter Set: For MPS-H50, H165, and H200 hone heads

Drive and feed extensions come in various lengths to cover honing lengths from 150 mm (5.9") up to 1981 mm (78") and beyond by connecting multiple tubes. Disassembly rings facilitate easy assembly/disassembly.

For heavy-duty or larger diameter (≥ 88.9 mm / 3.5") applications, GNR Drive Shaft Adapters and extensions provide enhanced strength. Quick change-over adapters simplify hone head swaps but are not recommended for rough or heavy-duty use.

3. Stone and Guide Sets

• H50 Stone Sets: For MPS-H50, available in 100 and 220 grit CBN
• H70 Stone Sets: For MPS-H70, H85, H165, H200, and JS9X extensions; available in 70 to 400 grit with CBN, diamond, aluminum oxide, and silicon carbide abrasives

Heavy-duty bronze guide shoes are offered for diamond or CBN stones when standard guides wear excessively or for special finishing needs.

4. Mandrels and Portahones

• Mandrels available with 2 to 5 stones, covering diameters from 25.15 mm to 66.68 mm (0.990"–2.625"); longer mandrels available on request
• Portahones designed for diameters below MPS-H50 range or for bridging interruptions like ports or cross holes
• MPS-1000-JU5X Mandrel Driver: Adapts to MPS drive/feed extensions for honing interrupted bores from 66 mm to 144 mm (2-5/16"–6") using standard P28/R28 tooling

5. Ordering and Special Notes

• Double length hone heads and longer mandrels require special order; contact customer service
• Specify open or blind hole application when ordering mandrels
• Stone and guide master holders and adapter blocks are ordered separately from hone heads and extensions
