Stromag Periflex® VN Disc Coupling

Product catalog summary
Overview: The Stromag Periflex® VN Disc Coupling is a highly flexible elastomer coupling designed for diesel engine drives, with a torque range of 160 – 63,000 Nm. It adheres to SAE standard J620 for flywheel connections and is applicable in various fields such as piston engines, electrical assemblies, and construction machinery.
Specifications: The coupling features an axial plug-in connection for easy installation and removal. It is available in multiple series, each with specific nominal torque ranges and configurations. Materials include steel, ductile cast iron, and aluminum, with elastomer qualities suitable for different temperature ranges and environmental conditions.
Design and Installation: The coupling is designed with a connection ring that bolts directly to an engine's flywheel and includes a fail-safe device for temporary emergency operation in case of rupture. Proper storage of flexible rubber elements is crucial to maintain their properties, requiring protection from environmental factors like oxygen, ozone, and UV light.
Compliance and Standards: The coupling complies with DIN ISO 9001 quality standards and is suitable for potentially explosive environments as per Directive 2014/34/EU. It meets API 671 requirements with specific deviations and can be delivered with EN 10204 acceptance.
Selection and Usage: Selecting the appropriate coupling size involves considering static and dynamic characteristics, torsional vibrations, and operating modes. The coupling acts as a safety feature, designed to fail under overload conditions to protect the drive train.
Ratings Tables: Detailed tables provide information on nominal torque, maximum torque, radial displacement, stiffness, damping, and speed for various coupling sizes and series, including Periflex® VN NR and ECO Series.
Dimensions and Mass: The document provides detailed dimensional data for each coupling size, including diameter, length, and bore sizes. It also includes mass and moment of inertia values for both the A side and B side of the couplings, with mass values ranging from 3.3 kg to 254.8 kg.
Connection and Bore Details: The couplings are designed with specific SAE connections and bore configurations. Bore sizes are specified in millimeters, and the document includes details on the number and size of bores for each coupling size, with some configurations including vent bores for additional flexibility.
Applications and Recommendations: The Stromag Periflex® VN Disc Couplings are suitable for applications requiring high flexibility and torque transmission. The document recommends selecting the appropriate size and configuration based on specific application requirements, including torque, speed, and alignment conditions.
Performance Parameters: Key performance metrics include nominal torque (TKN), maximum torque (TKmax), and permissible angular, axial, and radial displacements (∆Kw, ∆Ka, ∆Kr). These parameters must not be exceeded to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Installation Guidelines: Correct installation is crucial, including the adjustment of connection rings and ensuring the disc tire is properly seated. A question sheet is provided for determining the appropriate coupling based on engine and application specifics.
Environmental Considerations: The coupling is suitable for use in potentially explosive environments, with specifications for different zones and temperature categories.
Additional Information: The document includes contact information for Stromag facilities worldwide and mentions other brands under Altra Industrial Motion, highlighting the company's global presence and product range.

Highly flexible Stromag Periflex® VN Disc Coupling The Stromag Periflex® Disc Coupling concept Stromag Periflex® VN couplings are highly flexible elastomer couplings with linear spring characteristics ideal for diesel engine drives. The Series covers the torque range 160 – 63,000 Nm. The external companion dimensions conform as standard to the flywheel connections under the SAE standard J620. The larger couplings are basically designed with metric flywheel connections. Stromag Periflex® VN coupling allows fast and simple connection of a flange, specifically a flywheel, to a shaft. Some designs...

Highly flexible Stromag Periflex® VN Disc Coupling Instructions for the designer The Stromag Periflex® VN coupling hubs are made of steel or ductile cast iron. The connection ring is made of aluminium. The disc tires consist of a steel or ductile cast iron angular ring with a volume of vulcanized elastomer. The variants of natural rubber (NR) can be used at temperatures of ‑50°C to +80°C. The variants of temperature resistant material (ECO) can be used at temperatures of -40°C to +120°C. In addition, ECO is resistant to ozone and oil. Damping work may cause the flexible element to reach temperatures...

Highly flexible Stromag Periflex® VN Disc Coupling Fail-safe device The Stromag Periflex® VN coupling is available with an fail-safe device. A rupture in the flexible element causes claws to intermesh, forming a torsionally rigid, backlash connection between the drive and output sides. Temporary emergency operation is possible with limited torque. The permissible torques and speeds must be calculated separately on the basis of torsional vibrations transferred via a torsionally rigid structure. Instructions on choosing the coupling size The static and dynamic characteristics of Stromag Periflex®...

Highly flexible Stromag Periflex® VN Disc Coupling Installation instructions and scope of delivery The Stromag Periflex® VN coupling is fitted with a connection ring (1) that allows it to be bolted directly to the engine’s flywheel. The hub (3) of the disc tire (2) is secured to the machine with bolts (4). The drive and output sides are moved together to the prescribed distance (maybe blind installation), in this situation the tire’s teeth must engage over the entire length of the connection ring. The maximum displacements can be taken from the dimensions and ratings tables. Delivery of the standard...
