SR245 Computer Interface

Product catalog summary
Overview
The SR245 Computer Interface module by Stanford Research Systems is designed for data acquisition, providing both analog and digital interfaces between a computer and experimental setups. It features eight analog I/O channels and digital I/O capabilities, along with RS-232 and GPIB interfaces for easy programming.

Analog I/O
The module includes eight analog I/O channels that can be configured as inputs or outputs. Each channel offers 13-bit resolution over a ±10.24 VDC range with 0.05% accuracy. The maximum A/D rate is 2 kHz.

Digital I/O
Two front-panel digital I/O bits can be used as counters or triggers. An 8-bit input and an 8-bit output port are available for custom digital interfaces. The digital ports support a maximum count rate of 4 MHz.

Interfaces
The SR245 supports both RS-232 and GPIB interfaces, allowing for simple command-based programming using ASCII strings. It includes a 3500-point sample memory for data storage.

Specifications
  • Analog Ports: Configurable as inputs or outputs, 13-bit resolution, ±10.24 VDC range.
  • Digital Ports: Two TTL I/O bits, 8-bit input and output ports.
  • Interfaces: IEEE-488 (GPIB) and RS-232.
  • Power: Requires +24 V/60 mA, 24 V/60 mA, +12 V/20 mA, approximately 8 watts.
  • Mechanical: Single-width standard NIM module.

Command Structure
The SR245 uses a simple command structure for configuration and operation, including input/output commands, trigger commands, scan commands, and miscellaneous commands. Key commands include:
  • I<n>: Designates analog ports as inputs.
  • ?<n>: Returns the value of the designated analog port.
  • MS: Sets synchronous mode for command responses.
  • SC<i>,<k>:<n>: Scans a list of ports for a specified number of triggers.
  • MR: Master reset to default values.

Ordering Information
The SR245 Computer Interface module is priced at $1500 (U.S. list).

It provides both an analog and a digital interface between your computer and your experiment. RS-232 and GPIB interfaces Both RS-232 and GPIB interfaces are standard features of the SR245. Simple commands make programming easy from a variety of high-level languages—all that’s necessary is the ability to send and receive ASCII strings. For example, sending “?5” instructs the module to measure the voltage on the 5th analog input BNC. Other commands allow you to record in the module’s 3500 point buffer memory, ramp an analog output at a specified rate (for gate scanning), or read the contents of a digital counter. Analog I/O The eight analog I/O channels can be designated through software as all inputs, all outputs, or as a combination of inputs and outputs. All channels have 13 bits of resolution over the ±10.24 VDC full-scale range, with 0.05 % accuracy. Digital I/O Two front-panel digital I/O bits are provided for use as counters or triggers and can be set or read by the computer. Additionally, an 8-bit input and an 8-bit output port are available (on an internal connector) for your own custom digital interfaces. Stanford Research Systems Computer interface module
