- Alumina Oxide: Composed of 99.5% Al2O3, it has a hardness of 1700 Hv, an ultimate tensile strength of 31,000 psi, and a compressive strength of over 300,000 psi. Its modulus of elasticity is 53 x 106 psi, and it can withstand temperatures up to 1400°C. It is inert except for hydrofluoric and hot concentrated sulfuric acids.
- Zirconia Oxide: Composed of 97% ZrO2, it has a hardness of 80 - 84 Ra, an ultimate tensile strength of 60,000 psi, and a compressive strength of 285,000 psi. Its modulus of elasticity is 29 x 106 psi, and it can withstand temperatures up to 2400°C. It is inert to most substances but not recommended for hydrochloric or strong alkaline solutions.
- Silicon Nitride: Composed of 87% Si3N4, it has a hardness of 1400 - 1700 Hv and a compressive strength of over 570,000 psi. Its modulus of elasticity is 44-45 x 106 psi, and it can withstand temperatures up to 1000°C. It is inert to most substances.
