Overview: The CapSwitcher® is a high voltage capacitor switching device designed for reliable, long-life performance in improving power factor through capacitor banks. It is specifically engineered to provide restrike-free switching using SF6 gas and closing resistors to mitigate voltage transients and current inrush.
Features:- Closing resistors minimize voltage and current transients.
- Design virtually eliminates restrikes.
- Simple, cost-effective mechanical design ensures repeatability.
- Long operational life of 10,000 operations.
- Eliminates the need for inrush reactors.
- Can be used as a protective device due to its interrupting rating.
Specifications:- Maximum Voltage Ratings: 38 kV – 170 kV.
- Capacitive Current Switch Rating: 600 A (38 kV to 72.5 kV), 650 A (123 kV to 170 kV).
- Primary Interrupting Ratings: 25 kA RMS Sym (38 kV to 72.5 kV), 40 kA RMS Sym (123 kV to 170 kV).
- Short Time Withstand Ratings: 40 kA RMS Sym (1 sec) for lower voltages, 63 kA RMS Sym (18 cycles) for higher voltages.
Application: Suitable for single bank or back-to-back, grounded or ungrounded configurations. It makes and breaks circuits in SF6 and is designed for restrike-free performance. Multiple resistor sizes allow for performance optimization.
Rated Duty Cycle: CO – 5 min – CO – 5 min – CO, with a spring charge time of 15 seconds.
Key Advantages: The device offers a straightforward mechanical design for long life and repeatable operation, with a common gas system providing local and remote status indication.
Ratings:- Maximum Voltage Rating (kV): 38 to 170.
- BIL (kV): 200 to 750.
- Continuous Current: 600 A to 650 A.
- Primary Fault Interrupting Rating: 25 kA RMS (standard and optional -50°C), 40 kA RMS (standard).
- Short-Time Symmetrical Withstand: 40 kA RMS/Sec to 63 kA RMS (18 cycles).
