WINDING TECHNOLOGY SERIES W4000 CAST Turret winder for stretch wrap film Series W4000 stretch film winders are available in differing versions for a variety of film dimensions. A single turret is used for 4-up widths, while a double turret is employed for 8-up and 10-up variations. This allows the processing of one side of the film in the upper turret and the other side in the lower turret. Lastly, for 6-up widths, either a single turret with centre support is utilised, or a double turret. The winders operate exclusively on 3-inch shafts with roll diameters of up to 400mm and combine central winding with a contact mode. Series W4000 winders are extremely robust with strong side walls and heavy reinforcement profiles across the entire width for smooth high-speed operation. They are designed for maximum mechanical speeds of 725 m/min or 1,000 m/min. During operation, the film is fed to the winder from an oscillating frame and enters the cutter stand from above before passing through a two-roller S-wrap, which separates line and winding tension. Following edge and bleed trimming in the cutting station, which consists of a special 3-roller unit, depending on its width, the film is transported to either one or two turrets. Each turret has an individual tension measuring roller, while an ultra-light, carbon fibre contact roller ensures sensitive winding. Carbon fibre is also used for the winding shafts of the two winding stations in the turret and a sophisticated electronic shaft vibration control prevents critical shaft speeds. When indexing, the winder operates a swivelling, stationary knife with electrostatic lay-on. In order to remove the rolls from the winder on a trolley, the winding shafts are swung out at an angle of roughly 30˚ with the help of a supporting arm. A cycle time of 60 seconds is ensured by the fitting of each turret with a separate magazine and a corresponding trolley with integrated core feeding device. Series W4000 winders have large 15-inch TFT colour operating screens. A PLC offers individually adjustable winding taper curves for various products.
