UNWIND TECHNOLOGY SERIES ECOFLEX / POWERFLEX SML – unwinding technology with a difference SML PowerFlex series turret unwinds are designed for extra-wide applications and speeds of up to 600 m/min, while EcoFlex unwinds provide maximum flexibility at speeds up to 400 m/min. The machines in both series are extremely robust and therefore offer highly effective vibration absorption. EcoFlex unwinds are of modular design and can thus be equipped according to customer requirements. The machines combine a minimal footprint with a maximum number of features. For example, large unwinding diameters help to extend roll change sequences and reduce roll-loading activities. Moreover, an optional constant gap unwinding roller is employed for thin aluminium foil with a minimum thickness of 6.35µm. motorised moveable side frames simplify operation with differing core widths and unwinding is either counterclockwise or bidirectional. New rolls have to be prepared with double-sided adhesive tape. During the changeover sequence, the new roll is synchronised to line speed. Joining with the active web and cross-cutting are completed at production speed. An additional take-off unit is employed to increase web tension and in combination with an optional edge detection support, the motorised side frames in the turret can be used as web guiding unit. In this regard, SML can also offer individually designed solutions according to customer specifications. All the unwinds are fitted with a PLC-system with a touch screen operating panel, which facilitates their integration into existing production lines. Settings for different kinds of material can be stored in recipes for quick and unproblematic product changeovers. Tension control is highly sensitive due to a speed control loop with an integrated, ultra-light carbon fibre composite dancer roller.
