SP/SMB14 product brochure

Product catalog summary
Overview: The document provides detailed technical specifications and operational guidelines for the Flow Limiter SP/SMB14, designed for use in circulating-oil lubrication systems. It outlines the device's purpose, which is to divide and regulate the volumetric flow of oil, ensuring consistent flow rates regardless of system pressure and viscosity.
Specifications: The SP/SMB14 can adjust flow rates between 25 to 90 l/min using interchangeable plug-in nozzles. It features a gear wheel-type flow indicator with a Hall-Sensor, providing reliable and stable flow measurement. The device is constructed from anodized aluminum alloy for corrosion resistance and low weight.
Design and Components: The flow limiter consists of a housing with a sensor, a regulating assembly with a control piston, plug-in nozzle, pressure spring, and a gear pair. The sight glass is made from temperature-stable pressed hard glass, conforming to DIN 8902 standards.
Operation: The SP/SMB14 operates with two restrictors in series, where the first is a nonadjustable plug-in nozzle and the second is an adjustable restrictor. The system maintains a constant differential pressure across the nozzle, ensuring stable flow rates. The flow indicator emits pulses proportional to the flow, which can be monitored by external equipment.
Installation and Maintenance: The flow limiter can be installed in any position and is suitable for various oils within a temperature range of 0 to +90 °C. The document provides instructions for replacing plug-in nozzles and emphasizes the importance of using appropriate tools to avoid damage.
Ordering Information: Customers must specify the type designation and order number based on desired specifications. The document includes a key to order codes and examples of type designations.
Safety and Compliance: The document highlights the importance of using the product as intended and following all instructions. It also notes restrictions on using certain hazardous materials and provides information on ATEX-certified versions for use in explosive environments.
Additional Resources: References to related brochures and additional product information are provided for further guidance.

Flow limiter SP/SMB14 for line installation in circulating-oil lubrication systems. Flow limiters are used in circulating-oil lubrication systems. The task of a flow limiter is to divide up the volumetric flow of the main line into parallel individual volumetric flow quantities and to “limit” these according to requirements, or to keep them constant. The volumetric flow produced does not depend on the system pressure and is nearly independent of viscosity. Using interchangeable plug-in nozzles, the volumetric flow of the flow limiter SP/SMB14 can be set stepwise from 25 to 90 l/min. That makes it possible to adjust the volumetric flow rates at a later date. The SP/SMB14 group comes with a visual/ electric gear wheel-type flow indicator that has a proportional factor of 106 ml per revolution. Advantages • reliable - Parallel distribution of individual flow quantities - Self-regulating metering, thus even volumetric flows for different back pressures - Wide viscosity spectrum, practically independent of temperature and viscosity, thus stable system conditions. • easy system planning The required volumetric flow (the required flow limiter nozzle) has to be determined already during the project planning phase. • simple start-up Preset volumetric flows allow short start-up times. • effective volumetric flow control by means of gear wheel-type flow indicator with Hall-Sensor • broad range of applications • optional ATEX version • stable and reproducible measuring procedure, no corrective

Dimension drawing The SP/SMB14 flow limiter consists of the following: • Flow limiter housing (with sensor) flow limiter regulating assembly (with control piston, plug-in nozzle and pressure spring) • Gear pair • Flow limiter cover (with sight glass, seals, plugs and fastening screws). The housing, gears and cover consist of an anodized aluminum alloy thats results in corrosion-resistance and low weight. A round glass disk conforming to DIN 8902 (temperature stable pressed hard glass) is used for the sight-glass pane. The pane floats in the cover to avoid distortion and premature failure. The...

System structure flow limiter The flow limiter SP/SMB14 has two restrictors connected in series (D1, D2). Restrictor D1 involves an interchangeable plug-in nozzle, which as a nonadjustable restrictor defines the nominal volumetric flow. . The nonadjustable restrictor D1 is available in different nozzle sizes (refer to table on page 4). On the contrary, restrictor D2 is an adjustable restrictor, which has a different restrictor cross-section based on the position of the control piston RK. The flow resistance of restrictor D2 is automatically changed in such a manner by shifting the control piston...

Example of a circulating-oil lubrication system Example of a circulating-oil lubrication system Pump (1) delivers the lubricant to the main line (2). From the flow limiters arranged in parallel (3), the lubricant reaches the lubrication points directly. The pump's volumetric flow should be at least 15 % greater than the sum of nominal volumetric flows of all connected flow limiters. The pressure-regulating valve integrated into the main line (4) assumes the system pressure regulation. The gear wheel-type flow indicator (5) integrated in the flow limiters (3) controls the volumetric flow. Display...
