Si2160 Digital DVB-C2 TV Demodulator

Si2160 Digital DVB-C2 TV Demodulator

Product catalog summary
Overview: The Si2160 is a digital demodulator designed by Silicon Laboratories, integrating demodulators for DVB-C2, DVB-S2, DVB-T, DVB-C, and DVB-S standards into a single CMOS die. It aims to enhance reception performance while reducing design complexity, cost, and power consumption.
Specifications: The Si2160 supports a range of modulation schemes including 16-QAM to 4096-QAM for DVB-C2 and QPSK/8PSK for DVB-S2. It operates with bandwidths of 6 MHz and 8 MHz and supports various DVB standards with specific symbol rates and FEC decoding capabilities. The device is compliant with multiple standards such as ETSI EN 302 769 for DVB-C2 and ETSI EN 302 307 for DVB-S2.
Features: Key features include notch management, DiSEqCTM 2.0 interface for satellite control, a flexible transport stream output interface, and low power consumption. It supports I2C serial bus interfaces and firmware control for upgradeability. The device is housed in a 7x7 mm QFN-48 pin package and is Pb-free/RoHS compliant.
Applications: The Si2160 is suitable for integrated digital TVs (iDTV), advanced multimedia set-top boxes (STB), personal video recorders (PVR), Blu-ray recorders, and PC-TV accessories.
Electrical Specifications: The device operates with input clock references between 4 to 30 MHz and supports XTAL frequencies from 16 to 30 MHz. Power consumption varies by mode, with DVB-T consuming 190 mW and DVB-S2 consuming 480 mW. It requires two power supplies: 1.2 V and 3.3 V.
Pin Assignments: The document provides detailed pin assignments for the QFN-48 package, including connections for ADC inputs, I2C interfaces, and transport stream data outputs.

Si2160 Digital DVB-C2 TV Demodulator-1

The satellite demodulation functionality allows demodulating widely deployed DVB-S, DIRECTVTM (DSS) legacy standards, and new generation DVB-S2 (AMC compliant) satellite broadcasts. A zero-IF interface (differential) allows for a seamless connection to market proven satellite silicon tuners. The Si2160 embeds DiSEqCTM 2.0 LNB interface for satellite dish control and an equalizer to compensate for echoes in long cable feeds from antenna to the satellite tuner input. The cable demodulation functionality allows demodulating widely deployed DVB-C legacy standard (ITU J.83 Annex A/C) and Americas' cable standard (ITU J.83 Annex B). The main features of the DVB-C2 mode are 4096-QAM, 6 or 8 MHz bandwidth, management of notch insertion (broadband and narrowband), and support of multiple data slices and PLPs. DVB-C and DVB-S/S2 demodulators are enhanced versions of proven and broadly-used Silicon Labs Si2169/68/67/66 devices. The Si2160 integrates digital demodulators for the first and second generation DVB video broadcasting standards (DVB-C2/S2/T/C/S) in a single advanced CMOS die. Leveraging Silicon Labs' proven digital demodulation architecture, the Si2160 achieves excellent reception performance for each media while significantly minimizing front-end design complexity, cost, and power dissipation. Connecting the Si2160 to a terrestrial and cable hybrid TV tuner or digital only tuner, such as Silicon Labs' Si2178/58/48 devices, results in a high-performance and cost optimized TV front-end solution.
