SQ-PTS Programmable MEMS Tilt Switch

Product catalog summary
Overview: The SQ-PTS is a programmable MEMS tilt switch designed for measuring angles up to ±70º in dual-axis and 360º in single-axis configurations, providing digital outputs when pre-set angle thresholds are exceeded. It features configurable outputs and additional I/O lines for custom functions.
Theory of Operation: The device uses two factory-calibrated accelerometers to measure angles relative to gravity. An onboard processor handles trigonometric conversions and filters out unwanted accelerations and vibrations.
Functionality: The SQ-PTS offers angle measurement with ±1º accuracy and 0.10º resolution. It includes features such as configurable trigger angles, hysteresis, reset and trigger delay, filtering, and bandwidth adjustments.
Applications: It is suitable for reliable on/off tilt switching and machine control applications.
Specifications: The device operates within a voltage range of 0.3V to 5.8V, with an operating temperature range from -40ºC to 85ºC. It can withstand shocks up to 500g and operates under vibrations of 0.25g.
Electrical Characteristics: The supply voltage varies with configuration, offering 3.3V and 12V tolerant versions. Supply current ranges from 1.6mA to 4.6mA.
Performance Parameters: Angle accuracy is ±1º for the HP option and ±2º for the LP option, with a resolution of 0.1º. Alignment accuracy is ±2º, and temperature-induced angular drift varies with temperature range and option.
Output Characteristics: Update rates are 40Hz for HP and 5Hz for LP options, with varying warm-up and measurement settling times.
Pin Configuration: The device includes 18 pins with specific functions for digital inputs and outputs related to mode selection and trigger thresholds.
Design Considerations: The SQ-PTS is not suitable for automatic assembly or wave soldering; hand soldering is recommended. Proper device orientation is crucial for accurate angle measurement.
Orientation: The document defines vectors for gravity and the X, Y, and Z axes, explaining dual-axis tilt mode and single-axis gimbaled mode operations.
Ordering Guide: Options include power regulator, pin package, performance, accuracy, damping, triggering, and hysteresis configurations. A RoHS compliant, lead-free version is available.
Limitations and Warnings: The product is not suitable for life safety applications and is designed for quasi-static environments. It may not perform well under dynamic conditions with significant external vibrations or accelerations and is intended for use near the earth's surface.
Testing: Each system undergoes build-time testing and factory calibration. System integration testing is recommended for safety and functionality in the final application.

SQ-PTS Programmable MEMS Tilt Switch-1

SQ-PTS PROGRAMMABLE MEMS TILT SWITCH ±70 º DUAL AXIS, 360 º SINGLE AXIS, DIGITAL OUTPUT DESCRIPTION The tilt sensor module provides a digital level output if pre-programmed angle thresholds are exceeded. The two standard digital outputs can be configured at the factory as two different angle thresholds. In addition 4 additional input/output lines can be factory configured for a variety of functions on a semi-custom basis, greatly simplifying designs that require accurate, reliable angle detection. THEORY OF OPERATION The inclinometer uses 2 factory calibrated accelerometers to measure and compute angles made between its axes, and the gravity vector. The trigonometric conversions between acceleration and angle are made by an onboard processor. Additional processing filters spurious acceleration and vibrations to reduce the impact on the resulting output angle. ± 70 º dual axis angle measurement 360 º single axis angle measurement ± 1 º accuracy 0.10 º resolution Configurable trigger angles Configurable hysteresis (Schmitt trigger) for debounce Configurable reset and trigger delay Configurable filtering and bandwidth Low temperature drift High reliability solid-state MEMS Digital filtration for stable measurement Reliable on/off tilt switching Machine control 10 Water St. Lebanon, NH 03766 USA Page 1 of 11 www.signalquest.com [email protected]
