Capital Harness MPM Manufacturing Process Management Electrical Systems Design and Wire Harness Engineering D A T A S H E E Major Product Features Harness Manufacturing Process Management Capital Harness MPM matches harness designs to production capabilities. MANUFACTURING PROCESS MANAGEMENT Capital® Harness MPM is a modern software application specifically developed to solve the challenge of wire harness manufacturing processmanagement. The challenge is to determine an efficient pattern of sequenced process steps that results in correct assembly of the target harness, mindful of manufacturing capabilities. Usually more than one possible pattern will exist. The optimum choice depends on the specific capabilities of the factory(s) in question, such as automated wire processing equipment capabilities. www.mentor.com/harness Capital Harness MPM automatically creates an efficient manufacturing scheme for each harness to be built, resulting in structured bill-ofmaterials (SBOM) data suitable to drive Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. It does this by decomposing harness designs against previously captured descriptions of manufacturing capabilities using a reasoning engine that incorporates wire harness assembly logic. Multiple harness variants may be analyzed as a batch, for example in the case of composite design data. During the decompositional analysis Capital Harness MPM creates intermediate sub-assemblies that can be identified as work-in-process (WIP) items and assigned internal • Analyzes wire harness designs against manufacturing capabilities • Creates hierarchically structured bills-of-material suitable to drive ERP systems • Automatically identifies common sub-assemblies across multiple projects • Supports systematic capture of production processes • Provides flexible and secure application of intellectual property via rules-based paradigm • Permits manual over-ride of calculated patterns to manage process development and equipment downtime situations • Includes supporting functionality such as user management and reporting • Can read design data from Capital HarnessXC, Capital ModularXC, or VeSys Harness part numbers. Capital Harness MPM is able to automatically recognize any sub-assemblies that are common to different harness designs (rapidly scanning the entire database if appropriate), and manage them without duplication. FLEXIBILITY AND IP PROTECTION Harness manufacturing process management requires flexibility to cope with design advances (such as optical components), process advances (such as new equipment), and contingency (such as equipment breakdown). For this reason, Capital Harness MPM permits manual over-ride of calculated manufacturing pat- T

It is also important to capture and apply Intellectual Property (IP): manufacturing know-how represents key competitive advantage for wire harness makers. Capital Harness MPM is built around a very flexible, rules-based paradigm that supports customer’s specific knowlege base. Organizational expertise is captured in the form of rule decks that drive the decompositional analysis. A secure environment that robustly applies IP is thus created. This same infrastructure is used to model new factories or...
