DEFOR The specialist for UV-active gases

Product catalog summary
Product Overview
DEFOR is an extractive UV gas analyzer capable of measuring up to three gas components simultaneously. It specializes in selective NO measurement and can also measure other UV-active gases such as SO2, NO2, Cl2, NH3, CS2, H2S, and COS. The analyzer is designed to avoid cross-sensitivities to CO2 and H2O due to its spectral range.

Key Features
  • Emission measurement for low NO concentrations in power stations and gas turbines.
  • Monitoring of NOx in denitrification plants and emission measurement in the pulp and paper industry.
  • Process monitoring for Cl2, H2 in Cl2, sulfur compounds, and NOx emissions in various industries.
  • Simultaneous measurement of NO and NO2 without the need for NO2 converters or CLD analyzers.
  • UV Resonance Absorption Spectrometry (UVRAS) for very low NO concentrations with minimal cross-sensitivity.
  • Long service life of UV lamp (typically 2 years) and high stability through a four-channel measuring method.
  • Optional features include wall mounting cases, stainless steel or hastelloy gas lines, and heated gas lines.

Measuring Principle
The DEFOR analyzer operates on the principle of UV absorption. It uses a gas filter correlation for NO measurement and interference filter correlation for other gases. The system compensates for signal drifts through double quotient calculations.

Technical Data
  • Measuring ranges for various gases, e.g., Cl2 (125 ppm to 100 vol%), NO (10 ppm to 100 vol%), and SO2 (25 ppm to 100 vol%).
  • Sample gas temperature range: 0 to +45 °C.
  • Process pressure range: -200 to +300 hPa relative to atmospheric pressure.
  • Protection class: IP 40 for 19" rack, IP 65 for wall mounting case.
  • Explosion protection for Zone 1 and Zone 2.
  • Electrical safety compliant with CE, EMC Directive 2004/108/EC, and Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC.
  • Interfaces include Ethernet and optional OPC via SOPAS-ET.

General Information
  • Design options include a 19" rack or wall mounting case.
  • Operation via display (SCU) and/or PC software SOPAS-ET.
  • Power supply options: 90-264 V AC or 125-370 V DC.

DEFOR – Extractive measurement of gases by UV absorption DEFOR is an extractive UV gas analyzer that can simultaneously measure up to three measuring components. It is a specialist for extremely selective NO measurement with small measuring ranges and an allrounder for many other UV-active gases, e.g. SO2, NO2, Cl2, NH3, CS2, H2S and COS. Cross-sensitivities to CO2 and H2O do not exist because of the spectral range used. Innovative signal processing as well as highly stable detectors provide excellent long-term stability and compensation of drifts and influencing effects. DEFOR with stateof-the-art...

MEASURING PRINCIPLE The DEFOR process photometer op- erates according to the principle of absorption in the ultraviolet radiation range. NO-specific as well as other wideband radiation fractions are emit- ted from an electrode-less discharge lamp in the ultraviolet spectral range. The radiation spectrum, required for spective gas component, is generated in the filter wheel unit by one or two revolving filter wheels. For NO mea- surement, DEFOR uses the gas filter correlation where the radiation spec- trum for measurement and reference is separated by a cyclic swiveling in of an NO gas filter....
