Product catalog summary
Overview
This document provides comprehensive technical specifications and operational instructions for the BW series air circuit breakers (ACB-OB) by Shihlin. These breakers are designed for AC circuits with voltages of 400V and 690V, supporting continuous currents from 630A to 6300A. They offer protection against overload, under-voltage, short-circuit, and single-phase earthing, enhancing power distribution reliability.
Specifications
The BW series includes fixed and drawout types, with motor-driven and manual operation options. Available in 3-pole and 4-pole configurations, they have a rated current range of 630A to 6300A with adjustable settings. The breakers operate at a voltage of AC 690V and an insulation voltage of AC 1000V, complying with IEC 60947-2 standards.
Intelligent Controller
The intelligent controller provides protection features such as overload long time-delay, short-circuit short time-delay, and instantaneous protection. It supports inverse time and definite time protection modes and includes a programming port and various status indicators.
Protection Features
Protection features include:
  • Overload Protection: Long time-delay trip protection with settable curves.
  • Short-Circuit Protection: Short time-delay and instantaneous protection with precise settings.
  • Earth Fault and Leakage Protection: Inverse time and definite time protection modes, with external transformer options.
Installation and Maintenance
Guidelines for mounting, usage, and maintenance are provided, including instructions for plugging and drawing out the breaker and regular maintenance procedures.
Accessories and Functions
Breakers can be equipped with accessories such as shunt release, undervoltage release, motor-driven mechanisms, and auxiliary contacts. Locking devices and optional accessories like under-voltage trip and ST-DP interface are also available.
Conclusion
The BW series air circuit breakers are versatile and reliable solutions for electrical distribution and protection, suitable for various applications with intelligent and selective protection features.
Inverse Time Delay Characteristics
The inverse time delay characteristic allows for adjustable curve slope and setting current values. If running currents recover after a sub-circuit overload and remain below a set value for 60 seconds, the controller restores the power supply.
Technical Parameters
Primary and secondary current values are provided for different patterns, outlining setting current values and output characteristics for non-making and delay relay making conditions.
Testing and Fault Management
Describes stimulation tests for tripping and non-tripping, fault recording, self-diagnosis, and thermal memory functions. The controller records fault data and manages overloads with thermal memory.
Programming and Interface Functions
The controller offers a programming interface for setting parameters, choosing protection curves, and managing communication protocols, including historical data recording and contact wear analogy calculation.
Characteristic Curves
Six types of overload protection characteristic curves are detailed, including standard, quick, and super inverse time curves, with formulas and examples for calculating delay times based on fault currents.
Specifications and Functional Overview
Detailed instructions for operating and configuring the KST45-2H model air circuit breaker, including lightening device display checks, functional window displays, and parameter settings.
Fault Occurrence and Time Indication
Procedure to identify fault occurrence time using a system clock function, displaying time in stages.
Simulation Test Methods
Outlines instantaneous trip and no trip simulation tests, including detailed steps for conducting these tests.
Self-Diagnose Fault Search
Explains how to search for self-diagnose fault codes using the controller, with a table of fault codes and descriptions.
System Clock Setting
Instructions for setting the system clock, including entering the clock set state and adjusting time settings.
Other Parameters Setting
Mentions setting communication settings and characteristic curves using a programmer, typically pre-set at the factory.
Communication State Display
Indicators for transmit (TxD) and receive (RxD) states show the communication status of the controller.
Breaker Handling
Instructions for plugging in and drawing out the breaker, emphasizing the need to disconnect before handling.
Maintenance
Routine maintenance tasks include cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting the contact system, with specific checks recommended after short-circuit events.
Regular Failures and Solutions
A table lists common issues with circuit breakers, their possible causes, and suggested solutions.

Short time protection has two modes: 1. Inverse time protection: when the fault current exceeds setting current value of definite time, if it is curve (1~5), controller protects according to the curve (1~5) of overload long time delay, but the speed 10 times of it. (In other words, it equals to the tenth of the delay tripping time, which computed from the overload long time curve expression.) If it's curve 6, then calculate the inverse time delay tripping time from the expression of short-circuit shot time delay curve 6 characteristic. 2. Definite time protection: when the fault current exceeds...

There are two styles of above two protections: 1. Inverse time protection: TG=tG x KG x If / I In the expression: TG defines as delay actuation time of actual protection tG defines as setting value of definite time delay KG defines as coecient value of inverse time If defines as setting current value I defines as real working current Delay actuation time of inverse time protection could be obtained from above expression, but it is greater than or equal to setting value of definite time delay. It is definite time protection when KG is in OFF position. 2. Definite time protection: delay actuation...

4.1.2.6 MCR make-break and overstep tripping (optional) Make-break and overstep tripping protections are parts of back-up functions, which are optional. They are both instantaneous tripping actions whose tripping value relate to their service breaking and ultimate breaking capacities. Usually, MCR current is 40kA, 60kA, 80kA, overstep tripping current is 50kA, 75kA, 100kA The factory defaults of current values are 40/50kA for Frame I, 60/75kA for Frame II, 80/100kA for Frame III). Fault current signal sends out tripping instruction directly by hardware comparison circuit. MCR make-break protection...
