Introduction Inclinometers are widely used around the world to monitor the deformation of slopes, embankments, dams, foundation pits and tunnels. By measuring the inclination angle of a sensor probe at different locations inside a casing, we’re able to obtain data of soil displacement in vertical or horizontal direction. An inclinometer kit consists of a sensor probe, a mark cable and a datalogger. The inclinometer casing is usually installed in a vertical drilling hole through the unstable soil layer to the lower stable soil layer. The first observation can establish the initial section of...

4. Automatic measuring ① Lower the sensor probe down the borehole (wheels along the grooves of the inclinometer casing) till it reaches the bottom depth (such as 10.0m deep, as is indicated by the 10m mark on the mark cable), mount the wellhead tool to the inclinometer casing and rest the mark cable against the wellhead tool. ② Click “Measurement” and select the correct project name and borehole name. Make sure to enable “Auto Measuring”, then “Next”. ③ Click “Save” (or push the

⑤ Pull up the mark cable for 0.5m, rest it against the wellhead tool, wait till the datalogger buzzer sounds (i.e. when tilt angle reading stabilizes and is saved), then pull up the mark cable for another 0.5m, rest it against the wellhead tool, wait till the datalogger buzzer sounds,…, repeat the process, till you reach the last mark on the mark cable (the one closest to the sensor probe). ⑥ Take out the wellhead tool as well as the sensor probe, rotate the probe 180 degrees on its own axis, then put it back into the borehole. Lower the probe down the borehole (wheels along the grooves of...

Above picture: You may need to re‐measure a certain point in the borehole. Click “ReMeasure” and input the depth of the point, the direction and the mode (manual or automatic), then “OK” to re‐measure from that point. ⑧ When you reach the last mark on the mark cable, below window pops up. “Close” and “Finish”, now you have data of a complete measuring process (positive and reverse).

Note:  Normally the 0 axis in the raw data diagram is right in the middle of the two data curves (positive and reverse), but if the zero point of the sensor probe has not been calibrated, the 0 axis may be close to one curve and far from the other, and that is the case of the above diagram.  If you disable “Auto Measuring” at “Configuration” of the app, you are in mode of manual measuring, in which case you need to click the Confirm key on the datalogger each time you rest the probe against the wellhead tool during the measuring process. Also, you need to wait for a yellow diamond icon...
