Columns and Column Internals made of DIABON® and LICUFLON® DIABON® column sections Columns, column inter nals and vessels produced from DIABON graphite or LICUFLON elements are used in chemical process and environmental protection technologies – and for good reason: They meet extreme demands for corrosion resistance They ensure a high level of operational reliability and safety They provide economically viable solutions to problems They are resistant when used in operations involving the use of mixed corrosive media with differing and varying corrosion constituents They are insensitive to...

DIABON® Process Equipment Graphite Beneficial for Column Construction DIABON® tunnel cap tray, DN 1800 DIABON® bubble cap tray, DN 2200 DIABON columns are used for: Ǡ Adiabatic absorption of hydrogen halides Absorption and desorption of hydrogen chlorides Separation of acid mixtures by distillation Purification of highly aggressive flue gases All columns in DIABON graphite can be supplied with packing or trays. Bubble cap trays, sieve trays and tunnel cap trays in DIABON graphite are also frequently used in columns fabricated from other corrosion-resistant materials. DIABON columns consist...

Hollow Cylinders in DIABON® Graphite In the usual structural arrangement the individual sections are sealed with gaskets and held together under tension with the tie rods over the full length of the column. To meet special requirements, single sections up to 2,500 mm in length are fabricated with flanges at both ends so that each butt joint can be tensioned with its own pair of clamps. An outer protective jacket can be provided as protection against exterior damage. A glass-wool or Hollow DIABON® graphite cylinder rock-wool mat encased in a standard steel sheet shell is sufficient for use...

PTFE and its Advantages in LICUFLON® Columns LICUFLON elements combine the virtually total corrosion resistance and high thermal stability of PTFE with the mechanical strength of steel. Long service life if the plant service conditions are suitable for the material involved Minimized risk of component damage due to corrosion and thermal shock, thus avoiding long downtimes and production losses High operational reliability Suitability for universal application, allowing good flexibility in the use of production facilities if a change in product becomes necessary. LICUFLON® liquid separator...

LICUFLON® Columns and their Impermeability Welding of the nozzles requires much less for ing m work for the neck and hence less stretching of the lining at the nozzle aper tures than do flange connections. This increases the ser vice life of the lining. Consequently, trays, headers and nozzle seals in LICUFLON components are usually designed in the form of flat cover plates, with the nozzle linings and skived sheet linings of the cover plate for ing m a single unit. The welded sheet lining is inser ted into the steel shell in one piece. Final shaping of the edges is then carried out....

LICUFLON® Columns and their Impermeability Fitting the lining in the steel section Steel section with fitted LICUFLON ® lining As a general rule, a partial vacuum safety device provides sufficient protection against shor t-term vacuum up to a maximum of 100 mm water column (depending on service temperature, diameter and section length). For plants which have to be operated with vacuum we have two solutions: ® DIABON® or DURABON support cylinders With these variants PTFE linings are made vacuum- Resistance to vacuum can also be provided by resistant by incorporating corrosion-resistant...

Repairs without Problems Grooves between 0.2 and 1.0 mm in depth can be removed with a scraper This is done to avoid notch . stresses. Grooves of less than 0.2 mm depth are harmless. If the grooves exceed 1.0 mm in depth, repair welding with a patch of PTFE sheet is necessar y. Repair welding does not impair the physical or chemical properties of the lining. Small cracks, mechanical defects and pores can also be eliminated by repair welding. Comparatively small lumps will disappear automatically when heated by a suitable heat source – a radiant heater or hot air blower. The temperature at...
