Fuel Polishing Solutions for Dredging - 1

Case Study Fuel Polishing Solutions for Dredging Reverso Pumps has partnered with DEME Group, a global leader in dredging and hydraulic engineering, in the Philippines as part of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) project. The PRRC’s goal is to restore the health of the Pasig River, a major transport route and critical feeder source of Laguna de Bay (one of the biggest freshwater lakes in the world). Being a vital ecosystem and an irreplaceable natural resource, it is imperative to restore the river while reflecting the country’s noble history, its current progress and to renew the quality of urban life. The monumental effort was initially slated as a six-year project but was reduced to a three-year timeline due to the vital nature of the river. Reverso Pumps plays a critical role in this project as the supplier of fuel polishing systems for the three main barges used in the PRRC project. separation. Without clean fuel, equipment would become less efficient thereby slowing progress, increasing maintenance or breaking altogether. Fuel polishers mitigate these effects by continually cleaning the fuel. Reverso Pumps, after discussion with DEME project managers, took our FPS-2000 diesel fuel polishers and redesigned the systems for the specific requirements of the project. The systems are used to eliminate sludge and water build-up in the fuel tanks, reduce the cost of filter maintenance and provide continuous operation to critical power components. The fuel polishers also have a dual purpose. They are being used as clean fuel dispensers for the equipment located on the dredging barges. In addition to a custom redesign of the system completed in a compressed timeframe, Reverso Pumps also provided the expert technical support and responsiveness that we are known for worldwide. We know how important uninterrupted power is to projects such as the PRRC and clean fuel is the key. Clean fuel means a clean engine. And a clean engine means optimal power, superior fuel economy, dependability, cost savings and enhanced reliability. The PRRC project is aiming to improve water quality of the Pasig River in order to reduce health risks, enhance transportation and reduce flooding. This is one of the largest environmental projects in the country’s history and Reverso Pumps, with our environmentally-conscious systems, supports the projects goals and is proud to be a partner in this process. Due to the condensed timeline and high-profile nature of the project, the dredging barges are working 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To maintain this schedule, the barges and on-board equipment cannot incur any “down time” due to non-routine maintenance or equipment failure. Diesel fuel is the weakest link in an operation of this scope and clean fuel is imperative for continuous operation. Dirty fuel usually occurs due to a build-up of sludge, the natural breakdown of diesel fuel over time or ineffective water
