Column Sentry FE Fact Sheet-1

FACT SHEET Fire extinguishers are required safety equipment in warehouses, manufacturing plants, and industrial environments. Whether mounted on walls or columns, fire extinguishers must be placed where they are unobstructed, well-marked and compliant with accessibility regulations. The Column Sentry® FE (Fire Extinguisher) column protector was designed with a cut-out that allows items to be mounted on building columns without obstruction. • Features a cut-out that is 10" (25cm) wide by 8" (20cm) deep, with a height of 34" at the cut-out. • Allows fire extinguisher to be mounted on the column and remain unobstructed. • Compliant with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American with Disabilities (ADA), and the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) requirements. • The FE also accommodates electrical boxes and outlets mounted on the column. Although the ADA has very specific requirements for mounting fire extinguisher cabinets, non-fixed elements like fire extinguishers, are not subject to ADA standards. There are no official ADA fire extinguisher height or fire alarm requirements. There are rules for placement of protruding objects. • Protruding objects that are higher than 27" but lower than 80" are in the hazard zone. The employer shall provide portable fire extinguishers and shall mount, locate, and identify them so that they are readily accessible to employees without subjecting the employees to possible injury. Column Sentry FE is compliant with this requirement. • Objects in this zone must stick out no further than 4" into the walkway unless some part of the object is in the 27" cane-detection zone. Then it can protrude any amount. Column Sentry FE is compliant with this requirement.National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) The NFPA fact sheet states that fire extinguishers should be placed where they are readily accessible in the event of a fire, which typically includes normal paths of travel.
