LAS BaMBAS, PERU

LAS BaMBAS, PERU

Product catalog summary
Project Overview: The document details the installation of overland conveyor systems at the Las Bambas copper mine in Peru, a significant mining project expected to become a major global copper producer. The project involves transporting copper over a horizontal installation length of 2.5 km, with conveyor lengths of 2.6 and 2.7 km, and a sacrificial conveyor of 206 m. The total conveyor belt length is approximately 12 km, with a width of 1,830 mm and tensile strength of 5000 N/mm, supporting a transport capacity of 9,400 tph at a belt speed of 6.5 m/s.
Key Specifications: The conveyor system is powered by 4,400 kW and designed to handle heavy-duty conditions with high transport capacities and long center distances. The Sempercord steel cord belts used are known for their high strength and low elongation, ensuring reliable performance and longevity.
Project Execution: Sempertrans, in collaboration with thyssenkrupp, supplied and installed the conveyor belts, providing technical consultancy and on-site splicing supervision. The splicing process was completed in July 2015, ensuring high-quality splices and longevity. After-sales support included expert appraisal and advice for optimal operations.
Client and Partners: The client, thyssenkrupp, is a leading partner in industrial solutions, with a global network and extensive experience in engineering and construction. Sempertrans, a major conveyor belt manufacturer, provided the belts and technical support, leveraging its global presence and expertise in heavy-duty applications.
Challenges and Solutions: The project addressed challenges such as transporting large volumes of copper over extended distances, sustaining high operational capacity, and reducing operating costs. Customized solutions were provided to ensure durable and sustainable operations, adding value for the end user.
Conclusion: The Las Bambas project exemplifies successful collaboration between thyssenkrupp and Sempertrans, delivering a reliable and efficient conveyor system that meets the demanding requirements of the mining industry.
