Unidirectional fabrics - (Eg. carbon, aramid, and unidirectional fiberglass cloths) Selcom produces unidirectional fabrics with two different technologies: - Unidirectional fabrics stitched with any orientation (0º - 90º - 30º): products with multiaxial fabrics technology and, due to the fact that are held together by stitching with polyester yarns, they are stitched on another layer that can either be made of: roving glass transverse, mat, veil, felts. Produced with multiaxial technology in standard width of 1270 mm (2540 mm for special requests). Due to the fact that it is stitched, it can be cut down into tapes without the fibres falling apart. These products can be made using any type of fibre (unidirectional fiberglass cloths, carbon fiber cloth, aramid cloth etc. Or hybrids), with a varying weight between 200 and 1800 g/sqm, and assembled with mat/CSM and non-wovens. - Unidirectional fabrics tapes not stitched in a single orientation (0º): produced with conventional technology (warp –weft), therefore they are not stitched. They are supplied in a set width that is variable between 20 and 1000 mm. If the tape is cut to a smaller width, the fibres fall apart. These products can be made using any type of fibre (unidirectional fiberglass cloths, carbon fiber cloth, aramid cloth etc. Or hybrids), with a varying weight between 200 and 2000 g/sqm and cannot be assembled with mats or non-wovens materials. Weft direction is normally in “E” glass fibre or polyester fibre, these unidirectionals can be thermofixed, a process which gives more stability to cutting and handling.
