System Specifications
The X4 system features indexable tangential inserts with three-dimensional chipbreakers and a stable clamp design. It offers high accuracy, repeatability, productivity, and surface quality in external grooving and parting-off operations. The system accommodates a range of materials and includes MC chipbreaker inserts with cutting-edge widths from 0.5 mm to 3 mm and cutting depths between 2.6 mm and 6.5 mm. The maximum bar diameter for cut-off varies from 5.2 mm to 13 mm, depending on insert width.

Insert Profiles and Grades
Insert profiles are available in neutral, angled right-handed, and left-handed versions. Flat profiles, designated R and FG, with positive rakes, are also available. The R-style inserts have cutting edges ranging from 1 mm to 3 mm, while FG-style inserts cover groove widths from 1.15 mm to 2.65 mm and can machine lock-ring grooves to various standards. The X4 system uses CP500 and CP600 insert grades for increased wear resistance and a combination of toughness and wear resistance, respectively.

Toolholder Design
The X4 toolholders come in various shank sizes, including 1212, 1616, 2020, and 2525, as well as Seco-Capto™ C4, C5, and C6. The new 1212 and 1616 shanks feature a compact toolholder head design suitable for small sliding head machines. One toolholder works for all X4 insert types, reducing tooling inventory. Most toolholders incorporate Seco’s Jetstream Tooling® Duo technology, enhancing productivity, tool life, and chip control by delivering coolant from two outlets.
